Re: David De Gea
Yes, I agree. The squad rotation policy that Fergie is renowned for hasn't exactly done de Gea favours, I mean, when de Gea was on hot form, just after the mediocre start, Fergie benched de Gea for Lindegaard. And, then when Lindegaard was on good form, he brings in de Gea against Blackburn, who are physical opponents, it just doesn't make sense.

After a shaky start, he made up for it by producing a masterclass of a save.

Re: David De Gea
Well, you might want to dig out Ron-Robert Zieler's phone number again, if you don't believe in de Gea anymore. The current German Nr.3 just gave an interview:
Zieler also said that his goal is to play as starter for a big club one day. "Something like United", said the goalkeeper, who came to Hannover from Manchester United in 2010, where he felt very comfortable. "But who knows how my plans will look like in 5 or 6 years."

Re: David De Gea
I think he is as good as anyone when it comes to shot stopping. One of the best young goalkeeping talent in the world, although I think Cortouis and Ter Stegen are better goalie all round.
As we know his main weakness is dealing with high ball because he isn't the tallest or biggest. Also, he has only been in England for 1 year or so, his comunication skills will improve. He has been having some problem with his parrying of shots, as we can see from the Liverpool match. Maybe he's trying to avoid giving away a corner so much (due to his weakness with crosses) that he's risking pushing the ball to an opponent.

Was great at Atletico, nothing special at United. One of the worst if not the worst GK I've seen in terms of dealing with aerial balls. He also rebounds a lot of shots.Honestly though,he might actually work if he goes to Barca since he is good on 1 vs 1 and with his feet

Re: David De Gea
David de Gea is still a promising youngster. Unfortunately he hasn't made too much progress from the time he was transfered to ManUtd, but he was unfortunately not exactly fairly treated by either fans or English press. Another problem is that the coach doesn't seem to be fully convinced of him either and starting Anders Linegaard in a rather large number of matches so far (8 vs 15 of de Gea) isn't really doing good for de Gea's confidence either.
IMO he still needs to work on his strength a bit, as he seems to be outmuscled comparatively easily by attackers and for a tall lad (1.93m) he should be able to handle high crosses better, too. His reflexes are definitely okay, but he needs to work a bit on his decision making, too, as some of his punch-clearances IMO come up because he didn't really make more sensible decisions beforehand that would have allowed him to deal with the shot better.
But you have to take in mind that the kid's only 22 and that's by far not yet the best age for a goalkeeper, and if he works a bit more on his strength and decision making, he can become quite useful.

Re: David De Gea
Goalies his age are rarely ever the total package, sort of as RWO indicated. He got areas he needs to improve for sure, but he has to deal with some scrutiny other goalies his age dont because he plays for Utd.
Compare him with Courtois, who makes as many errors but its easier to forget about because all due respect to Atletico, they aint Man Utd.
Anyway, a very good goalkeeping talent and could one day be great, needs to iron out some things. Maybe the EPL aint ideal for him, maybe he will grow into it..have to wait and see I guess.

Re: David De Gea
De Gea is excellent. I wish the English Media drive him out of Manchester into Barca's arms.
I mean people who think he's been bad at United I don't know what your smoking. It seems like he plays with a different back four every game.
Not to mention he was the reason United didn't lose to Spurs last weekend he had two saves that were outstanding in basically 1 vs1 situations.
There is so much misinformation about this guy, one person says he's not that tall. He's every inch of 6 foot 3 inches. That's basically normal for a keeper and taller then a lot of the more famous keepers in the world.
He lets off a lot of rebounds- Well of course people think that because the English press shows every single one. They give no one else in the league the same treatment.
Sure he let's off some rebounds but a lot of the times he is making an outstanding save and you hear some English announcer saying he should have pushed it away to the side as well. Nothing about how great the save it's self was. I mean they put such unrealistic expectations on him.
I watch a lot of City games and Joe Hart has not been that great this year and has made mistakes but you barely ever hear that or see it because of the English press.
I don't know what it is but they have been trying to kill this kid since he stepped into the EPL.
At a young age he has already accomplished some great things and IMO he is already a top keeper in Europe. He will be in the discussion for the best keeper in the world when he hit's his prime.
(I don't think he will ever be as good as Neuer though)

top 3 shot stopper in the league
worst in the league dealing with high balls.
LONG-TERM, He'd be excellent, but I hope Fergie panics and sells him to barca

Re: David De Gea
a bit harsh gary neville. wow.
i think de gea is a very promising youngster and when ever i have seen him play for united he makes some seriously world class saves (and hes just 22).
of course there will be areas he needs to work on, no young goal keeper is going to have the same grasp of the game as a 30 year old goal keeper. thats what comes with maturity.

Re: David De Gea
Neville waffling.
Talking about VDS and Schmeichel playing for Utd...im sorry, they playing for Utd at 22 years old?
Noone saying he will be as good as those guys, but this is the unrealistic expectations people refer to.
The goal itself was like a half error at best, ideally you punch it out the danger area, but its not as if it was a free punch, it was challenged with the cross at a height reachable for players.
What I would be thinkinkg about is why the Spurs leftback has so much time to cross the ball and why are there 4,5,6 Man Utd players in the box watching as the Spurs get a tap in.
Should I mention that before that "error" he kept Utd in the game more than once?

Re: David De Gea
I usually like what Neville says but he's talking utter f*cking rubbish there.
Anyway De Gea has potential to be WC but i don't think he will fulfill it in England as he's just not suited to the style of play.
This isn't to say the league is anything special or anything but i think a lot of Spanish GKs would struggle as most of them struggle with the aerial stuff.
Plus as mentioned he's only 22 at one of the biggest clubs in the world....

He is a brilliant goalkeeper, probably one of the best in the league. Keepers at his age usually make odd unorthodox mistakes, nothing new. VDS was called a flop when he joined Fulham.
Schmeichel's first two years were as good as Almunia's.
Fergie would be stupid to replace him

Re: David De Gea
I think he has a serious problem with his aerial presence - he's just not commanding enough tbh. He definitely needs to be more imposing, maybe it's a physical thing idk.
He has the best ball control with his feet out of any of keeper in premiership, he can launch counterattacking kicks really well.
Huge potential, if he can improve the overall commanding his area thing he will be a top top quality keeper imo.

+1
Also I believe that this season means a lot for De Gea.If we win EPL, De Gea will be a better goalkeeper from the next season, psychologically speaking. He will be more courageous and more confident. He needs to win some trophies.
He's also speaking english better from a day to another.

De Gea is around 6'4-6'5.... He's one of the tallest keepers.
