Adding 2-3 and getting Rosicky, Arteta, Podolski, Chamberlain back is needed.
I think offloading Arshavin and Squillaci would be a bonus.

Done with the first post. Ended up in a rant but I feel I've made some good points.

finally someone agrees with moi, Wenger has caused enough damage and sometimes I feel I cheer for some risk management team than an actual football team

And Van Persie rubs our noses in it again. Although it would be good for us if they won.

IF spurs lose today and we beat West Ham in our game in hand, gap from 4th will be 3pts.

If we had bought quality players earlier, a proper defensive coach, we won't give a shite about 4thplace

Re: Chelsea 2 - 1 Arsenal: Another Jekyll and Hyde performance as January continues to suck
Wenger's inability to get this side playing well from the start of games, the lack of response to certain situations and the lack of action (so far) in the transfer market is really making me want a change more and more. Sadly, I'm losing more confidence in him by the game.
Before, we at least played well against the big teams; showed we really wanted to beat them and could actually beat them. Now, we're doing equally bad against all opposition. It's a depressing state of affairs.
I'm willing to give Wenger the rest of this season, because I think removing him now would be too much upheaval to go through in the middle of the season and I still have some faith he can get this side playing consistently well. One good run will completely turn this season around.
If we finish outside the top four, though, then I'm afraid it's curtains for him.

btw season is over. Already looking forward to the summer. whether we finish 7th or 4th, don't matter.
Although 80% it will be outside the top 4
bayern will eat us alive
FA cup, can't see it. barely went past Swansea.

Re: Chelsea 2 - 1 Arsenal: Another Jekyll and Hyde performance as January continues to suck
Who to replace him though? (This isn't a wish list request so much as a consideration of what the options are should Wenger underperform in his bare minimum expectations.) Virtually everyone in the fan/public community opposed to Wenger has had exactly two names in mind: Guardiola and Klopp. Well Guardiola's now spoken for and the only way I can see Klopp coming is if Dortmund crashes & burns the rest of this season, Klopp gets the boot mercilessly, and Arsenal provide the most interesting or lucrative offer for his next job. (So: unlikely.) Hard to imagine that if Wenger gets the boot, the board will bring in one of his proteges like Remi Garde or Dragan Stojkovic.GoonerJay29 wrote:If we finish outside the top four, though, then I'm afraid it's curtains for him.
What other options could there be that would represent a step up from Wenger's recent performance? Especially one that wouldn't end up wrecking the club in medium/long term (which is my fear about a type like Mourinho succeeding Wenger). Serious question - not a rhetorical defense of AW.

Re: Chelsea 2 - 1 Arsenal: Another Jekyll and Hyde performance as January continues to suck
Ahaha @ Criticism for Sagna.
For a start his form has dropped because he is being forced to look elsewhere, he has been viciously slapped in the face. A truly world class performer, who has experience. Arsenal fans whine about players not being loyal and the lack a of a link between the fans he does it better than all of them. In the pre match tunnel he is the only player I have seen to show bitterness towards players who have left us i.e. Adebayor. I see our "captain" talking to the opposition he is a major problem of this Arsenal side.
Off the pitch Sagna is an outstanding ambassador of the club, and the one fact that sickens me in this whole debacle is this is a man who played in the San Siro days after his brother died. If that does not show love for Arsenal I don't know what else does.
The final point on this matter is ask yourself, at 29 years of age it's your final contract and you are not getting your relative worth. I know I wouldn't sign an extension if Arsenal treated me this way. It's all been about Theo but not one mention for Sagna, disgraceful from Arsenal.
Regarding the game Giroud is not good enough, the constant asset stripping has finally caught up with Arsenal. His miss came directly before Mata's first goal, he's 25/26 and he can't finish, if anyone is to be blamed for the loss today it is Giroud. Simply put his primary function is to score goals and he doesn't do this, in the corporate world he would be hanging by a thread. For every goal he has scored 2 big misses go on the other side of the ratio.
I don't doubt his feelings for Arsenal, which in fact has given him more time from most of the Arsenal fanbase, but give me a Demba Ba or an RVP... Oh wait.

Well i think a new manager who comes in will bring in new ideas, new mentality, freshen things up. And if he has quality then that will be displayed on the pitch.
Wenger is a genius and i respect him more than anyone else, but his ideas are all old. I was watching Arsenal vs Bolton from 2006, we played the exact way which we did today. The difference is that we had players who made the difference in Fabregas, RVP, Hleb, Flamini.
But coming back to the point, As long as we avoid the obvious scrubby managers like Ancelotti or Hiddink and get someone who has a vision for future and fresh with the ideas. Someone like Remi Garde, Martinez of Wigan or even David Moyes to some extent.
It can't be worse than this.

Re: Chelsea 2 - 1 Arsenal: Another Jekyll and Hyde performance as January continues to suck
Just like it's impossible to tell how well a player does when he signs for a club, it's impossible to tell how well a manager would do. In both cases, you're not going to know until you give the guy a chance to prove himself.
Arsene Wenger himself is a great example. George Graham has a successful time with Arsenal and when he was replaced by an unknown manager, there was widespread doubt about him. Wenger has since gone on to become the club's greatest ever manager.
So I feel it's pointless to name potential replacements. It'd be more constructive to name the sort of qualities that would suit this club and take it forward.
The new manager needs to be able think beyond the short term because Arsenal, as a club, doesn't just think short term. He needs to be able to motivate the players, get them focused and organised during games. I would like the new manager to have a more flexible tactical approach; to actually have plans he can use to respond to certain game situations. I would want a new manager that has more consideration for our off-the-ball play - pressing, organisation and marking.
I might be asking a bit much, but that's the sort of manager I would want to replace Arsene Wenger. I feel we could benefit by having someone who not only has a lot of fresh ideas, but is also a bit more pragmatic and has more appreciation for the gritty and tactical side of the game.

mate. all we need is half decent manager with the resources wenger has to his disposal and he is good true and true..
wenger has totally neglected good youths who he could have used.
secondly, the board and money excuse is complete bullshite, wenger is is using philosophy as an excuse
i could fvcking go on
his time is now to go, and he should, and we all know what happens when people get tired of dictators..

Great responses, and I agree - key to emphasize both the capability & willingness to nurture a long-term project of quality football, as well as the virtues of pragmatism & tactical flexibility.

Re: Chelsea 2 - 1 Arsenal: Another Jekyll and Hyde performance as January continues to suck
I just remembered that horror miss from Giroud, it was offside nonetheless but he missed from 6 yards. That's the biggest problem Arsenal have, they do not coach players. The world can see Giroud is not a natural finisher, we have our all time top scorer who himself was not a "natural finisher" yet there seems to be no link from management or the player to say "Hey Thierry, my finishing is dire help me out".
The constant burying the heads in the sand is criminal. If we don't sign a proven CF I can't see us getting top 4.

Who to replace him though?
For me, stick with Wenger for one more season as it seems we will have a shed load of money at the end of the season. He deserves the chance to spend it. This is assuming he buys NOW and we finish top 4.
But, in answer to your question...only one man surely.

Oh and Coquelin was epic today, he deserves a run in the side his ability to win the ball and turn defence into attack was tremendous. He played even better than in the defeat to Spurs at WHL last season.
