History tells us no.

La Liga has been dominated by these two and now more than ever.

Atletico and Bilbao have been the next closest in terms of La Liga won but neither have won ehen half as many as Barca, who are still like 10 behind Madrid.

The problem is that Atleti might finish second but they'll lose Falcao after this season or the season after that. Just like Valencia lost Villa, Silva, and Mata. Just like Malaga lost Cazorla (and will probably lose Isco). Just like Sevilla lost Dani Alves (Fabiano, Ramos). Just like Villarreal lost Forlan, Riquelme, and recently Nilmar, Rossi, etc.

These teams just don't have the finances to compete and keep a hold of their star players after a short period of time. Once they hit the spotlight it's very difficult for them to keep their stars or compete with bigger clubs with wages or prestige.

Not to mention that Atleti also lost prime Torres and Aguero before the likely exit of Falcao, who might also go to England. Even Yaya left Barca and is still WC as well, but thats a bit different since Barca is one of the big 2. I guess La Liga is destined to be a 2 horse race for a while now, lol.

La Liga will be a two horse race for our entire lifetimes I presume.

Yes, once in a while one or even both of Madrid or Barca will suffer for some years and a new team rises and wins a title. That can happen.

But as quick as they come, they will fall again.

The last time a team not Barca or Madrid won La Liga twice in a row? 1984.

Its been this way since 1927...in 2027 it will be the exact same I would guess.

Maybe La Liga will eventually shift to a joined league like the Premier League and then they can all share the tv money, even then it might not be enough.

Sometimes one of the two teams will have an off season like Madrid is having...

And maybe ten years in the future UEFA FFP will fail and a new sugar daddy might come along.

So it doesn't look very good, it might last all our lifetimes.

Not really, the TV deal stops the other clubs from holding on to their players and any attempt to restructure it would cause Barca and Madrid to financially implode.

Throwing stones at EPL in a La Liga once known as SPL thread.

How pathetic...

TV rights are so unfair in La Liga.

Last placed team in EPL gets as much as third placed team in La L...

I think money is a over played issue.

For years Atletico spent alot of money and for so many of them, they were pathetic.

Money isnt the reason they cant hold on to players either, the reason is players want to play for the best and not have to suck every year.

Spain, especially recently, have so much young talent that it levels up the issue when compared to say England, where everyone spends money but hardly anyone has any youth talent.

The reason they are behind Barca and Madrid isnt just money, its poor decision making combined with that fact, Barca and Madrid are very very good.

Lolwut?

When Madrid can just buy a 100m player, if they want, Barca can splurge on the likes of Villa, how is anyone supposed to compete with them?

Yeah the players leave the smaller clubs, because Barca and Real are more successful. But they're more successful because all the players leave the other clubs. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

And you can't break the cycle if Barca and Real can also pay much higher wages because of a ridiculous TV deal - how is it fair in any notion if two clubs get half the money?

I dont think thats my point.

Barcelona and Madrid in recent seasons for example are not successful from buying all La Liga's players, thats Bayerns game.

Barcelona have their own players and half the signings they make are foreign, half are from the rest of La Liga.

Madrid just buy Ballon D'or winners and dont give a crap where they are from. Usually not La Liga.

The PL buy just as much, if not more, from the "other" La Liga's then we do.

What reason does Torres have for leaving Atletico to Liverpool? It was they sucked. And not, they sucked because they couldnt beat Madrid and Barca, they sucked because they were 6th.

There are many examples like this.

Everyone thinks money will solve everything, its not true.

If it was Atletico would finish 3rd every season and Bilbao would suck every season. And yet, they both won the same amount of La Ligas (Atletico 1 more).

The lack of money didnt stop Real Sociedad coming so close to winning the league, didnt stop Villarreal from becoming a CL semi finalist and didnt stop Deportivo getting to a final and a semi.

And none of them stopped being good because other teams poached their talent away with big money, they stopped being good because of poor decisions and players declining.

Meanwhile, Atletico spend more money than all 3 combined and struggled to get into the UEFA cup/Europa league.

So yeah, dont give me money is the only issue here.

I was going to point this out. the TV deal is skewed so much that it leaves very little (relatively) to the other la liga clubs.

if the deal was more evenly distributed its possible that the likes of atleti, sevilla, and valencia could challenge the top 2 on a regular basis long term.

or another super deportivo.

Even if the T.V rights were more evenly distributed like in the EPL then it wouldn't make that much of a difference.La Liga gets much less overall in T.V rights than the EPL and even Serie A.

I've seen someone work this out online before,it's something like if La Liga does it the same way as the EPL does teams like Valencia will only get £5 million more a year and the mid table/lower teams something like £7 million more a year.

But Barca and Madrid would each have to sacrifice like £60 million each a year in T.V rights,it simply isn't worth it for La Liga fans.EPL clubs would still have the financial power to buy La Liga talents but Madrid and Barca would have less money to buy some of the EPL talents.
