Which team is likely to break the Spanish stronghold of world football ?
Well i guess this is an interesting topic to discuss..
With Spain just having won three major titles in a row, some already believe this is best NT in football history but some still believe they're not and think that they need to retain the World cup trophy in Brazil in 2014 to be considered the best ever.
But this is not the actual discussion at hand..The question i'm posing is which national team do you think is likely to end this golden age of Spanish football ?With the kind of future talents Spain are producing ,they are already lucky to be integrated into a winning team hence one would think its hard enough to break their stronghold of world football at present.
But come 2014 its arguably going to be hard for them to replicate the feat. You would have a mature Germany side with several of their current crop of young stars in their prime,A Brazil side oozing with talent backed by their home crowd would be intimidating enough..Plus you cannot discount traditional powerhouses like Italy for example despite not quite being their best phase in their history. An Argentina side backed by their talisman, one of the best footballers in history in his prime with several other stars in their team ,despite having the talent ,they havent quite lit up the international stage, you cant count them out and we would be having a no.of rank outsiders for this tournament as well(Portugal ,Uruguay etc) along with the usual suspects.
So which team in your opinion is likely to end the Spanish stronghold of world football ?
Even if it doesnt end in 2014(with Spain retaining the WC),who would you think would end their period of dominance in the subsequent years ?(Although i understand its not that easy to predict the future)

Re: Which team is likely to break the Spanish stronghold of world football ?
Seriously, not one team atm. I thought this Italian team, after they outplayed (my favourites for the euros) Germany, would be the ones to end Spain's reign in the final, but Spain made them look like a poor team.
Even when they do have an off day, like v Portugal in the semi's, they still somehow get the luck they need to win.
Luck + great team= no chance for any other national team for a while. Scary thing is, they are still producing top class talent like Alba, Alcantara, the basque youngsters etc.
They are finally being rewarded after being perennial failures in the past tournaments, pre 2008.

Italy messed everything up, the Germans would have been a better match for Spain.
I think Brazil and Argentina can challenge Spain.

Spain and Germany should worry about home advantage.they will not feel comfortable playing with 80000 people booing the feck out of them.specially in a potential final at the maracana

And Belgium.
Just need two competent fullbacks instead of pigeonholing CB's into the team.
Lukaku's development is also crucial.

Anyone who can park the bus and play the counter well enough like Chelsea and Inter have. Only team that comes to mind is Greece!

Italy-Only they have the maturity and composure to beat the champions...they have what very talented teams like germany and france doesnt have. They have the aura of invincibility. Germany had it once, brazil had it once...years ago...but not anymore.

Imo, in this order:
1) Germany,Argentina
2)Brazil ( Very impressed with them in their friendly matches, potential to achieve great heights)
3)Italy,Belgium (Just about time that Belgium's golden generation matures)
4)France,Netherlands (Always there or there about, might either go far or flop big time)

Re: Which team is likely to break the Spanish stronghold of world football ?
argentina with portugal's defence can challenge them
or bring maradona he will alone beat spain (some stupid ideas of some posters). i think its perfect time to see that no player in history of football can beat a perfect balanced team even if pele comes back he can not beat this spain team (people believe he won WC singel handed )
spain has great goalkeeper, great defence, great midfield and attack. they arguably have best players at every area. team like this is not available at the moment so i think only luck can beat them

Re: Which team is likely to break the Spanish stronghold of world football ?
As of this moment I think only Uruguay can challenge Spain because they are a very disciplined team. But even that might be a stretch. Right now in international football there is Spain and the rest. In the future I don't see Argentina, Italy, Germany or Brazil beating Spain in the world cup. All these teams play fairly open football and as such would get slaughtered by Spain. Best to hope for that by 2014 a couple stars retire and then maybe the rest will have a chance.
