Re: The Official Xbox Thread
First of all obligatory PC Master Race comment:
All these console gamers complaining about a console getting casualized. Oh the glorious irony
On another more serious note, to all those complaining about used game DRM... Who the f gave you the right to profit from someone else's work? Ok, ok pretty extreme and you might think what harm can selling a used game be but remembery there are international store chains who make infinite profit off of used games. You know why you get a discount when trading in? It's because the store sells them on for free profit. It's a massive industry of its own for which the guys who made the game get 0 money. You really think publishers didn't pressure MS and Sony into finding a solution for this problem?
Why do I see mentions of Neof*g
People seem to forget that the PS4 reveal was pretty bad too, Sony just did a better job with buzzwords everywhere. It was just as casualized (the whole friggen point of consoles) and at least I was left with as many questions as after the XBone reveal.

If I buy a bike, I have a right to resell it despite not making it?
Like a car, shoes, phone, electronics, etc
Who gave me the right to make a profit off of those? I did. After I bought them.
So I'm not sure if that was a good example.

Re: The Official Xbox Thread
Read the EULA. What you pay for is the right to experience the game the devs made. You do not pay for the right to sell/rent etc. because you do not actually own the game. Your examples are pretty poor because you're talking about tangible goods which had a production cost which was recuperated.

Actually yeah, same with music industry didn't get their policies right until recently leading to all that piracy etc etc.
Game industry is the same it actually is against the law to resell games, music and movies.
Except no one has acted upon it.
Tbh used games don't bother me as i always buy new and always online doesn't either as my connection is like never off lol.
Tbh i don't know why people are outraged though used games drm won't hit the gamer just places like gamestop from making money that should be the devs.

That thing is massive
If i am to buy it then i'll have to sell my 360 to make room for it.
Really don't have the room for both.

They have already said it will have no effect.
Obviously very little has been said and both companies are being extremely vague.
But i believe it will have something with regards to retailers profits than gamers themselves.

Trolling huh ? I guess they wouldnt do it if they didnt abort the DRM plan , or else after this they'll get flamed

As for those who want to play Conker you have two options.
Download an N64 emulator and a Conker ROM or buy the HD remake that was made for the original Xbox called Conker Live and Reloaded if you have a 360.
Not sure if the servers are still online for the MP but the story will work fine.
Also Vendetta Red they are definitely announcing something at E3 Microsoft have said Rare will be there with a "Historic Franchise" and apparently they are working on a new IP too obviously the internet has ran wild with speculation to what it is.
I just hope it isn't Killer Instinct not that it was a bad game or anything just not a massive fighting game buff.
I'm actually really into retro game collecting, so I know I'm eventually gonna buy Conker, but its just a matter of time, and I don't want to download an emulator and have already played it when the day comes when I have enough to spend on it, if that makes any sense lol
And yeah, I hope its not KI either, the one popular rare series I couldnt get into, and I love fighting games just never liked that series. I just dislike fighters that are based around ridiculous long button combos. I like the more simplistic street fighter approach. Perfect Dark or Banjo would make e3 for me

Re: The Official Xbox Thread
Talking about Kinect....
Microsoft representative said that the machine "is not always watching or always listening."
The Xbox One can be completely switched off, the representative confirmed. "Yes, you can turn the system completely off," the Microsoft representative said, "This would use no power and turn everything off. Weāll share more details about how it all works later." By default the Xbox One will suspend to a low-power state and listen out for applicable voice commands from users.
In an effort to reduce fears that the motion sensor will spy on its users, Microsoft assured that it would ship the Xbox One with various customisable privacy settings for users. "We are designing the new Kinect with simple, easy methods to customize privacy settings, provide clear notifications and meaningful privacy choices for how data will be used, stored, and shared,"
"We know our customers want and expect strong privacy protections to be built into our products, devices, and services," continued Microsoft, "and for companies to be responsible stewards of their data. Microsoft has more than ten years of experience making privacy a top priority. Kinect for Xbox 360 was designed and built with strong privacy protections in place and the new Kinect will continue this commitment."

Re: The Official Xbox Thread
More information about some the more controversial policies of Xbox One from GameInformer:
Sharing, Buying, Selling or Trading games.
The "Always-online" connection
Privacy settings and Kinect
Sharing, Buying, Selling or Trading games.
In an extensive online post, Microsoft has detailed how youāll be able to share games with friends on the new console, and whether you'll be able to buy and sell used games.
In advance of E3 next week, Microsoft is addressing some of the thornier questions that gamers have had about its upcoming console. Chief among those concerns is Microsoftās approach to used games, and whether youāll be able to share your game collection with other Xbox One owners. It sounds like, in both cases, some big questions still linger.
On the used game front, Microsoft is punting the issue to publishers. āToday, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit,ā reads Microsoftās post āWe designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.ā Taken at face value, this means that publishers like Electronic Arts and Ubisoft will be allowed to make a decision on a case by case basis about whether used game sales will be allowed for a given game. Publishers could also set up fees for this transfer, but Microsoft claims it will take no part of those fees.
As for game sharing, Microsoft now says that game sharing will be allowed, but in a far more limited fashion than how passing a game to a friend works today. āXbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days, and each game can only be given once.ā In other words, people who have been newly added to your friends list wonāt be allowed to accept game loans, and repeated loans wonāt be allowed to the same friend.
In addition, Microsoft has revealed that up to ten players in your āfamilyā can have access to your shared library of games from any console, and youāll be able to access your full library of games and play them from any connected Xbox One. Rentals and other loan programs won't be available at system launch. Finally, all disc-based Xbox One games will be made available on day one as both retail releases and for purchase on Xbox Live.
The "Always-online" connection
The system can be played offline "for up to 24 hours" on your primary console or up to one hour if you're using your login on somebody else's system. Although you can use your Xbox One for other stuff (to watch live TV or play movies) while offline, you cannot play games offline after the allotted time unless you reconnect. The company says this is to see if "you have acquired new games, or resold, traded in, or given your game to a friend," as well as for system, app, and game updates. It would appear that this is the method by which Microsoft will determine if you've given/sold your game to someone else.
Microsoft also recommends a broadband connection of 1.5Mbps for the best experience with the system, and that if you don't have Ethernet, you can tether the system to your phone's broadband (provided your provider allows it).
Here's the info direct from Microsoft:
To ensure Xbox One works optimally and can offer the experiences described above, it is designed with the following networking requirements:
For an optimal experience, we recommend a broadband connection of 1.5Mbps. (For reference, the average global internet connection speed as measured recently by Akamai was 2.9 Mbps). In areas where an Ethernet connection is not available, you can connect using mobile broadband.
While a persistent connection is not required, Xbox One is designed to verify if system, application or game updates are needed and to see if you have acquired new games, or resold, traded in, or given your game to a friend. Games that are designed to take advantage of the cloud may require a connection.
With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies.
Privacy settings and Kinect
Kinect isn't an accessory with the Xbox One ā Microsoft has designed almost everything for the system around the device. For some users, the idea of having a camera pointed in their living rooms was disconcerting, particularly considering the console's "always on" focus. Today, Microsoft has provided some information that they hope will alleviate some of those fears.
According to a post on the console's official site, users will be able to change a variety of privacy settings to fit their comfort levels. They include whether or not players will be automatically signed in by standing in front of the unit or whether the camera is on, off, or paused.
Here's what kinds of controls Microsoft says players will have with Kinect and the Xbox One.
You are in control of what Kinect can see and hear: By design, you will determine how responsive and personalized your Xbox One is to you and your family during setup. The system will navigate you through key privacy options, like automatic or manual sign in, privacy settings, and clear notifications about how data is used. When Xbox One is on and youāre simply having a conversation in your living room, your conversation is not being recorded or uploaded.
You are in control of when Kinect sensing is On, Off or Paused: If you donāt want the Kinect sensor on while playing games or enjoying your entertainment, you can pause Kinect. To turn off your Xbox One, just say āXbox Off.ā When the system is off, itās only listening for the single voice command -- āXbox On,ā and you can even turn that feature off too. Some apps and games may require Kinect functionality to operate, so youāll need to turn it back on for these experiences.
You are in control of your personal data: You can play games or enjoy applications that use data, such as videos, photos, facial expressions, heart rate and more, but this data will not leave your Xbox One without your explicit permission. Here are a few examples of potential future scenarios:
A fitness game could measure heart rate data to provide you with improved feedback on your workout, allow you to track your progress, or even measure calories burned.
A card game could allow you to bluff your virtual opponent using your facial expressions.
You can use other inputs to control your games, TV and entertainment experiences: While itās faster to find what youāre looking for using your voice and gesture commands with Kinect, you can use a controller, your remote controls or your smart devices instead. And you can use all of these devices when Kinect is paused.

Can accept all of that tbh. I don't trade games with anyone and I wouldn't find it tough to just hold on to what I have instead of trading at Gamestop either. I've never used Kinect before so that will be diffrent, but I know how to regulate privacy settings so that never concerned me to begin with.

Re: The Official Xbox Thread
god i hope people put some thought into buying this... if this console doesn't tank that opens the door for every single future appliance to get away with this horseshit
a verification once a day means that they can decide to make you stop playing games at any given moment so you can now go *bleep* yourself not only if you take your xbox to cabins or business trips, or when you don't have a stable broadband connection with no data caps, but also when microsoft decide to stop supporting any game of their choosing so good luck playing previous year's fifa iteration
someone on reddit put it perfectly, microsoft can now kill an entire generation of games with one flip of a button when they decide to discontinue verification servers when the next console comes up, and don't delude yourselves into thinking they'd do anything else

Re: The Official Xbox Thread
Yeah because thats all totally going to happen
I do love the world of negative people who only think of the worst with their ridiculous assumptions.
If you don't like the idea fair enough don't support it, but the very idea of Microsoft of killing an entire generation of games when they feel like it is a joke.
I'm sure they are going to invest 1 billion into games and then make them unplayable
Massive overreaction as per usual.

Re: The Official Xbox Thread
uh huh... for starters they're not investing shit beyond the development of the console, which is made of hardware that was midrange 2 years ago
option 1: when the next console comes around, microsoft will be so nice and cuddly they will let the old servers run on their own expense while gaining virtually no revenue from them
option 2: they will remove the authentication necessity to let people play their games on the old console
option 3: they'll kill off the verification servers to force you to buy new console and new games
now i'm gonna hazard a guess that option 3 would be the most preferable as it gives them by far the most money, but you keep believing that a company that literally forces a surveillance device into your living room to let you play games is going to do something to be nice to customers
i'm just gonna point out that the servers for the original xbox were killed off half a decade ago, so you do the math what's going to happen when servers for a game THAT REQUIRES SERVER AUTHENTICATION TO BE PLAYED go down

I'm not fanboying at all, i still haven't decided what i want..... i have more Playstations than Xbox in my house... some fanboy
Anyway Che i meant games of this generation, i wouldn't be surprised if come the next generation that what you say is true. ( the one following the Xbox One/PS4 gen)
But how many Xbox/PS2 games were played this gen on the 360/PS3? like hardly any lol.
This is like a baby crying over losing his toy which he hasn't played with for years.
People only ever complain about backwards compatibility once its taken away from them, yet 99% of the time when they have backwards compatibility its not even used.

Re: The Official Xbox Thread
I did say i don't agree with always online in the E3 thread tbf....
Just i find your scenario a bit farfetched, that once Fifa 15 comes out they will make Fifa 14 unplayable.
And fair enough if you still play your PS2 games on a PS3 but a very small percentage of people do and i mean VERY SMALL.
Which is why Sony discontinued the feature in later PS3 models.

so... you disagree with always online but are ok with requiring a verification once a day? wat?
anyway why would it be farfetched? planned obsolescence makes perfect business sense as it forces the customer to buy the new product, and i certainly wouldn't rely on microsoft to prefer consumer wellbeing over profits
