Fantastic once again against Barca.
He's been incredibly consistent this season, one of our best 3 players.

Best in the world. No question IMO.
The way he attacks is second only to Van Aanholt, and he defends much better than him so its all there.

Not even in the same breath as Zanetti. Still Coentrao >>>

Do people realise how important this guy is in getting us forward?
Best in the world? probably.

Maicon at Inter was better than both Alves and Marcelo. Not anymore, mind you. But Cafu' was better than all three.

Considering we live in the now, I would like to think when discussing top full backs now, Marcelo should and would be part of this discussion.

Marcelo can be horrendus in defense.. and not with his 1v1 abilities.. he just doesn't know where to position himself sometimes and we do get exposed on that left side. still a great player though

His problem is suffering with Ronaldo. Everyone would look awful with Ronaldo while they have the offense responsibilities of Marcelo. He is alright to good in defense and the best on offense.

That's a cop out if I've ever heard one.
The dude used to get absolutely shredded AND he was ALWAYS targeted as the weak link in a defense that had Ramos in there, because they know he can't defend for shit.

Re: Marcelo: I consider myself the best full-back in the world
Marcelo is a wonderful, wonderful fullback, but everytime people make claims about him being the best I'm reminded of him more or less single-handedly being responsible for the most shameful WC game in history.
He's got a lot of atoning to do IMO.

They were all bad.
He is the best side-back in the game right now, hands down

Actually, that argument of Ronaldo being his problem is not valid this season because ronaldo plays as a top striker now. His support is meant to come from the LM/LCM/LW.
Only Mourinho managed to get a balanced Marcelo - he was a rock at the back then but now, he is just marcelo - absolutely mesmerizing in attack, average/below average in defense.
For now, his defensive errors are not costing us, but again he has an habit of getting serious against more difficult opponents though.
lets watch him against PSG

Carlo improved him a lot. Even defensively. He is still average at defending, but he doesn't get found out as much as before.
Definitely a top 10 LB

Re: Marcelo: I consider myself the best full-back in the world
TBH despite him playing badly in the WC match, I thought he showed great character, kept trying to at least do something. Failed horribly, but there's no coming back from an asswhoopin' like that.

Top 10 LB isn't exactly praise tbf, both fullback positions are full of shite. Even top 5 wouldn't exactly be glowing praise of someone tbh.

1) Abate
2) Siquira
3) Azpi
4) Alba
5) Benat
6) Maxwell
7) Gaya
8 ) Luis
9 ) Messi
10) Marcelo
Happy?
Honestly. Defensively he is still the same. Offensively he is immaculate. Depends on how you use him. Brazil dont use him right. He would create so much for them if he had someone to cover for him

agree totally. Would pass as winger in many teams. As a LB though still not on level of alaba imoVivaStPauli wrote:TBH despite him playing badly in the WC match, I thought he showed great character, kept trying to at least do something.
