Re: Pescara - Juventus
No it's not a specific thing how often do you see a team getting THAT many opportunities from that position
Players are generally taught from a young age that shooting low across a goalkeeper's body is the best way to score
It would take something special to beat him at the near post and putting it in the top corner of the far post would also take something special
It's more on the defense is what I'm saying, they aren't easily savable shots
Pescara's defense is just shambolic
Plus Juventus does not have many natural left footed players, so the fact that theyre driving to their right and then shooting back across makes even more sense
If Juventus had a left footed forward maybe he would do so on the opposite side and I bet it would result in a goal (especially with this much space)
but lets not fight Lynx, lets enjoy this Quagliarella hattrick

Re: Pescara - Juventus
oh, and that specific defender in question has been substituted i believe (capuano) and the formation probably changed to 4-4-2.
Say what you like - those observations about the CB and FK are very obviously specific to this game and to pescara.
6-1 nice...

I'm just placing it more on the CB for getting beat to his outside over and over, than it is on the goalkeeper for not saving a very difficult shot several times
It's very clinical finishing in the end and we can just appreciate that

Re: Pescara - Juventus
ofcourse its the CB.
Its the GK just as much.
You can make a mistake once. maybe twice. but that many times just exposes an OBVIOUS flaw.
oh btw, as much as players are taught thats a good scoring shot, the GKs are taught EVEN more how to defend against that. Its goalkeeping 101. that same scoring scenario is the first drill they are taught in any basic academy program. Its actually on the 2nd page of the goal keeping manual from the national acadamy of sport here.

Re: Pescara - Juventus
i see Quags holding/massaging his right knee... thats a scary sign..
I would favour subbing him off and have a closer look at that and give Bendtner a run around
We need him 100% for the comign games

It's the CB 90%, Keeper 10% and it's not even close
Anyways, the 'Closer' is on the field [Bendtner]

You say 90-10
I say 60-40
say what you want, no decent would get beat the same way 4 times in 30minutes unless there was an obvious flaw with his game

Re: Pescara - Juventus
I honestly thing Quags and Vucinic or Quags and Bentner are our best pairings at this stage
Im all for selling matri and brining back Immobile. Thats a good move. I would even settle for buying back half of immobiles rights for the full ownership of Matri.
I think bringing back Melo would be awesome. Melo & Pogba would be awesome substitue pairing for Marchisio and Vidal to sit alongside Pirlo. But i suspect the chances of bringing back Melo are slim to none.

Re: Pescara - Juventus
poor bendtner needs better service
hes not getting a solid chance to prove himself
his hold up play and linkup has been quite good
perhaps he needs more faith and trust from his team mates
Its hard to judge him without seeing how he does with good service

Re: Pescara - Juventus
Feels good seeing us actually make our chances.. 10 goals in one week takes the sting away from the inter loss. I do actually think that we needed a loss to wake us up, and the fact that it was to inter will keep us going till conte is back.
Lets hope prandelli doesnt *bleep* us over for the friendly against france this week cause we have lazio-chelsea-milan next

Yeah, well hit low shots to the far post while running against the grain
Obvious weakness

Buffon giving him a long talk after the game.. nice to see
He's only 20, he'll have better days. He probably couldve saved a couple but it wouldnt have made much of a difference.

Show me one other keeper in the last 25 years thats ive been watching football, thats let the same ball past him 4 times, in the same way, in 30minutes Im 100% sure you wont be able to.
World class finishing - sure.
Absolute Piss poor goalkeeping - absolutely.
Even worse defending - yup.

Re: Pescara - Juventus
The common theme in high scoring games is bad defending, rarely bad goalkeeping
Now, I'm not saying he is blameless but expecting him to make those saves or put it on him to adjust to those kinds of shot is absolutely mind boggling
It's either he gives up the near post or the far post
(Let me spoon feed you a little more, if he gives up the the near post it's an easier goal because it's a shorter distance hence NEAR post)
I don't need to indulge such claims lmao
Weaknesses could be positioning, distributing the ball, gathering the ball in crosses but getting beaten like that a weakness.... come on man

I mean even goal.com understands this
Mattia Perin
Utterly helpless, as all of Juve's goals were extremely well taken.

Re: Pescara - Juventus
The keeper wasn't covering himself in Glory but Put Buffon in the sticks and it would have been 4 or 5-1 regardless.
This was one of those rare games where bad defending comes up against pure clinical finishing. Each finish was either great acrobatics or astute, clinical finishing.

hahaha Spoon feeding? Dont kid yourself. Youre reasoning makes as much sense as a monkey offering an opinion on football.... matter of fact.. want a banana?
If you knew anything about football you would realise that the reason he was beaten was because of his POSITIONING or lack of rater! He doesnt have to give us the near post. He uses his legs for the near post like every keeper is taught to do when the ball is shot low across his body to allow him to cover the angle to prevent a goal into the far corner. He was camped far too close to his near post to allow himself to fully cover his far post. His legs werent fully extended when he dove showing that he still had probably 30cm of coverage available. 30cm extra would almost always cut down the angle by atleast 50% giving the striker about 10cm in which he could place the ball. Noone is expecting him to save all those monkey boy - i never said that. I said his positioning was piss poor. And I maintain that. His body was nowhere near fully extended to offer his team the best shot of preventing a goal. It was absolute amateur keeping.
Now would buffon have saved those - maybe some of them, yes. probably not all of them though because at the end of the day, they were quality quality finishes.
But does that mean the goalie absolutely needs to improve his positioning? 100% yes.
