Did I ever tell you that you look like M'vila?
Nah, he wish he's as good looking as me. Not even close, body wise or facial appearance

M'Vila? Stade Rennes is atm rather out of the competition for "Best Defense" this season. ^^

Seems like you miss the point, but yeah of course they are not really a defensive team or are they?

I didn't miss the point. It was just a subtle hint to get back to topicThe Messiah wrote:Seems like you miss the point, but yeah of course they are not really a defensive team or are they?
Obviously subtle hint was too subtle...

I know you didn't miss the point, that's why I went straight back to topic

As for your question - I guess only a Ligue 1 expert can answer this properly. I just collect the data in numbers and there they got in more goals than other Ligue 1 sides.

Looks like this weekend quite some clubs were out to totally ruin their defensive records... BMG got 4 in, Fortuna even 5, Barca 4 etc pp... I also added the Supercup results in the table now.
Here's the snapshot for today (click to enlarge):

Can't see a column which shows all goals conceded in all competitions?

@Yohan
Well, "All" is the quotient of all goals conceded / matches played, that is, Ai = (Fi+Hi+Ji+Li+Ni)/(Gi+Ii+Ki+Mi+Oi) with i = 3 to 47

So here you go - the complete stat ordered by "goals conceded / matches played over all". The absolute numbers by league are updated in the first post of this thread, as usual.

Fantastic work RWO
We are a lot higher than i thought mind you that probably has something to do with our defensive record in EL is outstanding while our League record has been meh.

I like our position considering we can defend much better than we are currently.
Great job RWO.

4-4-2 makes your defense a lot stronger

We play 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 in Europe and we have yet to concede in the group stage.
It's the league where we have struggled and we play 4-4-2 in the league for some reason.
Although we did play 4-2-3-1 yesterday.

They have played Atleti and lost in the last minute.

They played Atleti at the Calderon. Lost 2-1 in the final few minutes. They haven't played Barca or Madrid yet so it'll be interesting to see how they hold up.

Re: Return of the Top Defenses of the Top 5 Leagues 2012-2013 (stats)
I'm glad you like the table
BTW, it is a pity that Fortuna Düsseldorf seem to implode now. We'll see, I might add one or the other team at half-time of the leagues if there are new contenders with good defensive records then.
The teams I chose so far were the ones of the "big 5" leagues that play in Europe (plus Basel, but that's for my personal enjoyment ) plus a couple of teams that looked good in their leagues so far.

The matches yesterday and today pretty much ruined the overall defensive records of quite some teams XD
Here are the current standings as of 31 Oct 2012, 24:00 GMT+1 (I know half of the CDR is still played tomorrow, but I'll upload it nonetheless):

So essentially Willy Caballero is the 2nd least scored on keeper in European football

Well, here's the data sorted by GA/matches in the leagues:
(Sort order: league quotient -> number of matches -> alphabetically )
The funny thing for some reason is that people always slate Bayern for their horrible defense, but strangely they still don't allow many goals in (and not just in the BL, but also overall). BTW, this table is probably not complete as I don't check each team of each league from the start - if some other team than the usual suspects shows a good defense record over the long run, I will add it at league half time.

Great work rwo. One question though, what do the colors mean? They seam somewhat confusing to me. I would color-code teams based on the league they play. This way we could get an insight into which league has more defensively apt teams directly.
EDIT> I think i got it. It is based on the league position with respect to which international competition would they qualify?!

Re: Return of the Top Defenses of the Top 5 Leagues 2012-2013 (stats)
Red are the champions of the 5 big leagues, black are the CL teams, blue-violet the EL teams and green are teams that are currently not anywhere in Europe.
There is a column that gives the country the teams belong to; I thought that should be sufficient to denote the league membership. I think the colour-coding according to the competitions is probably a bit more useful as that way you can evaluate the overall numbers a bit better.
