I always thought he is Arsenal's best defender by far. Mert and Vermaelen don't come even close.

Don't look too much into stats. Some can be deceiving. Everyone here says Kos is our best defender but if we listen to stats, surely these stats mean Mert is our best defender no? :

Of Vermaelens 24 starts, we've had 6 clean sheets (25% of games) conceding an average of 1.29 goals.
Of Mertesackers 25 starts, we've had 10 clean sheets (40% of games) averaging 1.04 goals conceded.
Of Koscielnys 11 starts, we've kept 3 clean sheets (27% of games) conceding 1.09 goals on average.

I think you've misunderstood me. I agree, Koscielny is been our best defender. But according to those stats i posted, it suggests that Mertesacker might be better than him (atleast this season) which is obviously not the case (although Kos hasn't played many games at all). I'm just saying we can't always look at stats to paint a picture for us.

It's not an assist since he only set-up Rosicky's first shot, which was saved. The shot that resulted in a goal was a rebound off the keeper and therefore not an assist for anybody.

Pretty amazing when you think that RVP, Nasri, Cesc and Song are all gone + Diaby is perm-injured + Sagna is struggling with injuries now.

New team and haven't missed a beat without spending a lot. Not contenders... but very good managing imo.

Looked like an own goal but Goal.com, Arsenal.com, transfermarkt.co.uk and premierleague.com have all counted it as Giroud's strike.

Sky Sports had it down as a Bassong OG. I haven't seen enough replays to judge, but for now I'll give it as Giroud's goal... until the Dubious Goals Panel get involved, anyway.

That also means I can give Oxlade-Chamberlain an assist. cheers
