besides we are talking about a pretty fantastic strker here, Costa is great. one of the best 5 CF in europe in the past year.
lukaku is smart enough to know that mourinho found his guy, and everything else will be an after thought
Yeah that worked out well for us.

Re: The Fridge Full of Cash - Romelu Lukaku
The bottom lines are:
- Very good season at West Brom --> sign superstar Eto'o.
- Very good season at Everton --> sign super-hyped Costa.
Why should he be happy to stay in such circumstances? He's done everything he could in the last two seasons to have Chelsea show a bit of faith in him, but no.
It was the same with Sturridge. "Let's loan him out a bit and let him try and prove himself off the bench while signing other strikers". Rarely works out like that. Got a move away and now look at him.
You're also saying "he shouldn't expect to be an automatic starter at Chelsea" and I agree with you, Lukaku probably agrees with you, too. Very few players can expect to be automatic starters at big clubs. But he can and should expect a bigger role than what his Chelsea role promises to be with the signing of Costa.

Re: The Fridge Full of Cash - Romelu Lukaku
Wanting him to be the number 2 option at CF is "not having faith in him"?
Oh btw, you're gravely mistaking about Sturridge. The person you should direct that at is RDM. AVB played Sturridge A LOT, in fact he was one of our top performers along with Mata and Ramires during AVB's tenure. Unfortunately, he picked up an injury prior to AVB's sacking. By the time he was healthy again, RDM, who didn't fancy him was the manager. Sturridge didn't play the last few games of the season, including the important CL games and that hurt him. Asked to leave in the summer(RDM was still manager) and I can't blame him. Bottom line though is that RDM was at fault. It may ultimately have been the club's decision to grant Sturridge's request but don't act like he wasn't given a bloody chance ffs relax.
I guarantee you none of the top CL teams would take Lukaku right now to be their starting CF. None. Go on, name one.

Re: The Fridge Full of Cash - Romelu Lukaku
Who's talking anything about top CL teams? "Wanting him to be 2nd choice CF" can also be read "substitute appearances and the odd scrub game start". The guy wants to play and deserves to play more than that. It doesn't have to be a top CL team.
Also, the simple fact that Chelsea sign a big-name striker after a big-name striker when Lukaku is showing all the potential to be a 20+ PL goals scorer for Chelsea makes it very understandable that Lukaku doesn't have much belief in his chances at Chelsea.
And finally, the £50m, still-Spain-international Torres is still there. I thought Torres's best chance for a move was this Costa deal, moving the other way, but doesn't look like it.

Amazing you can even type this stuff with a straight face.

So you're saying one of 2 [competent] strikers still isn't a big enough role for him?
Or are you suggesting a title and CL contending club go into a campaign with one - one - striker on the books to make wee Lulu feel important?

No, he doesn't. No player deserves anything — especially not some 21-year-old kid at one of the top clubs on the planet. As I said previously, most players are only too ready and motivated to earn their places in their sides. This self-important primmadonna wants to be handed one, and sees even the smallest degree of squad-building in one of the weakest areas in our team over the last 4 years as some kind of slight on him.
Art Morte wrote:And finally, the £50m, still-Spain-international Torres is still there. I thought Torres's best chance for a move was this Costa deal, moving the other way, but doesn't look like it.
You say that like it's some kind of choice the club have made. You can't just flog players off cause you no longer like/want them, you know; especially when they're one of the biggest flops in football history and on £175,000 a week. If you really think, A.) getting rid of him is just a matter of the club wanting to, or B.) that the club wouldn't have sent him packing ages ago if they could have, then you're intellectually hopeless.

how thick are some of you lads not to understand that he is 21 and cares more about playing consistently to develop, than seating on the bench to make internet fans happy to have big names on the bench? fml

Perhaps but I feel like it will just be delaying the inevitable. Like really, is his standing at Chelsea really going to be any different by Summer 2015 than it is in Summer 2014?

I would prefer him to do a Dave and fight his way into the squad though.

Blasphemy! Didn't you hear? Lukaku deserves an automatic, guaranteed #1 starting position at the club with zero competing strikers alongside him in the squad no questions asked and that is THAT!
Fight for and earn his place? Heresy!!

And if Costa flops? Or does an average job while Lukaku destroies?
Only two ways I can see him returning with a starting spot.

"If the player [Lukaku] is getting cheaper, maybe this affair is picking up pace."
"But even then we won't be the only club chasing the player's signature.
"Actually we are looking at top-class strikers and we do not have any pressure. We are patiently waiting for the right moment.
"There will be some movement in all of this after FIFA World Cup tournament."

Shame? A knocking down a peg or 10 is exactly what this kid needs. He's nowhere near as brilliant or as important as he fancies himself.

True. He had so much promise. He really needs a good wake up call if he wants to truly ignite his career. I wouldn't be surprised if he left Chelsea. If somehow he can manage to control his attitude I'm sure he'll reach his true potential one day
