The Italian Transfer Market
Hey, serie A fans, quick question. I've noticed that the Italian market is quite different than the rest. For one, its a lot more active than others with many players and many clubs frequently loaning and selling like crazy. I try to keep my FIFA games up to date transfer wise and you really see the amount of changes there as well because so many players in Italy loan in between seasons quite a lot, so players are hard to find if you don't already know that they are at another club (I get my transfers from goal.com). Is there a reason for such activity, or is it just a normal thing?

Re: The Italian Transfer Market
Well loan deals take place in every league..
Co-ownership deals are the ones that make the Italian market different from the rest..I dont see it happening in any other 'top reputed' league..
Co-ownership deals happen in case of economic difficulty(for the top teams mostly)/or a specific team is running on a tight budget..Owners in Italy are rather circumspect when it comes to spending and they dont so easily splash the cash for whoever they want..
It benefits both big teams and the smaller teams(Co-ownership deals more often than not happen between a big team and a small team)..
-Small team benefit from this not only from the money but also they get counterparts in return(youth players, players on loan, direct replacements etc)
-Big teams benefit largely because it reduces the transfer fee greatly when they're buying a particular player..
In regards to your question, yeah its a normal thing which happens in every window.Italian market is quite complicated in that sense..

I see, and co-ownership really is something that happens a lot in Italy. I hadn't noticed before that it isn't too frequent anywhere else.

Co-ownership is really confusing. I never really understood it completely, until I read this:

Extremely well-written article that explains the whole thing.

Very good read man. It's informative and the explanation of the process gives you a new understanding on it. You have to respect the Italians' business-savvy processes which actually benefit the leagues and teams.7amood11 wrote:Co-ownership is really confusing. Re: The Italian Transfer Market
well in italy a 23 year old is considered a young prospect and they're sent to the smaller teams for experience. There is also the concept of parent club in italy where every big team works with a number of smaller teams regarding youth development and alot of loans happen there. One example is Inter and Genoa

So why doesn't co-ownerships happen in other leagues?
