Vertonghen hoping for Spurs move
Vertonghen, 25, has made clear his desire to move to the Premier League this summer and Spurs are among the interested parties. He has only one year remaining on his contract and hopes his club do not price him out of a move to White Hart Lane.
"The board is asking a fair amount for a player who is only contracted for another year," he told De Telegraaf. "I trust that Ajax and Spurs can turn water into wine and sort it out soon."
The Belgium international, who has been named the Eredivisie's Footballer of the Year, has been with Ajax since 2003 and has helped the club to two Eredivisie titles.
"I owe a lot to Ajax but I have always given my heart and soul," he said. "My appreciation for the club and fans is great and it would be terrible if my farewell was marred by Ajax sticking to a great price.
"Of course I want Ajax to gain financially but the amount Tottenham are willing to pay - perhaps with a little extra - is very reasonable."
Ajax coach Frank de Boer recently suggested Vertonghen should be looking to move to Barcelona, while several top Premier League clubs are said to be interested, but the player has his heart set on a move to Spurs.
"Tottenham are definitely my preference," he said. "Tottenham is a fantastic football club. Ajax was the perfect club for me, but Spurs will be very close in nearing that already. They buy young, eager and offensive-minded players."

Re: Vertonghen hoping for Spurs move
WHY Spurs. strange, strange.
And I also think Ajax should get the full money for him. He will be sold regardless.
Vertonghen is a little bit annoying in general, and he annoys me again.
Phenomenal player though.
De Boer is right however, he should aim for Barca. They could use him well, plus he'd get a bigger challenge there, more money, bigger club on so many levels...

That's a great signing for Tottenham tbh, but who will he replace - I read in one Spurs forum how unbreakable the King - Kaboul duo is.

By the way, isn't a transfer from Ajax to Spurs a step-down in your career? Money aside, Spurs don't offer nothing more than Ajax.

Re: Vertonghen hoping for Spurs move
Agree Urban, no CL, no chance to win anything in either your league or in Europe.. He will become more expensive for an actual transfer somewhere, harming his chances for that...
I don't really see the benefit, aside from getting more money and a more competitive league...

Not at all. This was more of a case of Vertonghen trying to get Arsenal's attention and when they blanked him, he started talking about SpursAnti-DNA wrote:Arsenal :vagi:

The boy has no taste. Choosing Tottenham over Arsenal
Or maybe he isn't confident enough to compete with the Gunner back line.

Think its that tbh or Arsenal dont actually want him and he's just whoring himself out to them like Cissokho did with us.
None the less if he wants to play in England he might not have much other choice.....
The only other team with concrete interest in him is us and quite frankly i would'nt begrudge picking Spurs over us considering recent years.
City have been linked though so thats a possibility.

Re: Vertonghen hoping for Spurs move
I'm flattered. Don't get to hear of a player wanting Tottenham over Arsenal often.
Give him to me right now, that reason is good enough
Other than being a fantastic player (on the admittedly few times I've watched him).

Every top club could use him TBH. He plays equally good in like 3-4 positions.

I think they're the only team interested in him. No other team is reported to make a concrete move for him.

Surprised lol.com didn't announce it as "Vertonghen slams door on Wenger as Frenchman crawls on his hands and knees to Vertonghen's house, pleading for acceptance"aleumdance wrote:lol.com said he snubbed Arsenal

Not true we have concrete interest in him aswell, if we finish 4th he will be a priority..... the difference is unlike Spurs we dont talk about our transfers in public.
Also City are heavily reported to be interested too.
If i posted the amount of links we have with him in the last year i would be posting about 20 links
