Jan Vertonghen is a Monster
He's simply a better version of Kompany/Luiz with no weaknesses.
Goalscorer, versatile, excellent passer, very good (recovery) pace, good dribbler, WC tackler, Nesta esque anticipation/concentration and unlike Kompany, Luiz, Koscielny, Pique etc he isn't a 1 in 5 footballer. He's extremely consistent.
He's easily the best defender in the PL and Top 3 in the World overall. I'd only take Varane and Chiellini over him.

All have high ceilings, all three are frustratingly inconsistent.
Arsenal haven't won a trophy in nearly 10 years now.
All facts.

Choose your words wisely.
BTW , if TS has been bad for 2 seasons now , it basically means he has been on top level for 2-3 years ..

Although Gil is looking for bites and plenty of people are going to give him them.
He has been fantastic this season.
Also i'm not sure where this myth about Kompany being poor this season is coming from it simply isn't true he's just been injured.

I got my Silva's mixed up sorry. THIAGO Silva HAS been shit season though, forgot how immense he was last year.
Did you watch City's CL campaign lol.
To be honest, I haven't really watched many City games this season but he's been below par in the very few ones I've seen.

His baiting used be like a Japanese Nihonto & now has dulled into a worn out into those imitations machine made by the Japs in WWII
Or maybe I've figured him out since I've known him for over 4 years

Ignore the previous trolling attempts, where exactly do you disagree with me on Vert's talent bro?
You took ages to finally admit you were wrong about Bale so lets see how you flip-flop on this one.

First, I did not agree on Bale as if I did, you must be mistaken from on chat where my opinions are more volatile then the Mariana trench tremors. I said Dembele is more of an important player to Spurs, which isn't far from the truth. Hell, it is the truth.
Vertoghen? For all his attacking talents and endeavours doesn't take away from his defensive frailties. He has been solid in the back for Spurs yet it cannot be forgotten how many times he has exposed himself for his inability to play an offside trap, read his zone and even command his line. What he does excel at is some fantastic marking, solid anticipation (but poor awareness) and iffy tackling to recover from his mistakes. What I don't forget is his atrocious performances for Ajax in the UCL where to me he looked like VdW in CB.
He is a good CB and has had a superb year, but the way you make him out be in over superior CBs like Bonnuci, Barza, Hummels, Pique etc etc and yes, even a more proven Kompany? I cannot find to agree with what is a hyperbole of an opinion.

Re: Jan Vertonghen is a Monster
I have said this before but Kompany's troubles in the CL were more a tactical thing and having to cover for the defensive failings of his team mates not himself.
He's still world class in my eyes..... heres some facts...
City still concede less than a goal a game and have the best defense in the league.... the defensive record was even better before Kompany was injured.... before Kompany was injured they was 4 points behind Man Yoo and now they are 15 points behind them.
Nothing has changed IMO, rather he's been let down by his team mates and his manager.

Spot on Mole. For all we both seem to criticize him, it is undeniable how his influence and commanding performances have raised City's defensive bar quite considerably. He may have his flaws and seems to struggle vs more tricky attackers with guile, but he is a world class CB, and has been back to his best post-injury.

Re: Jan Vertonghen is a Monster
Its not just the defence either City in general have been let down by the terrible form of the creative players and forwards thus needing to scrape through all the time.
Anyway i will leave that there i have said what i need to say.

Re: Jan Vertonghen is a Monster

I don't understand where he has an inability to play an offside trap. Spurs have done just fine with him back there playing it (when they have which depends on the game and what time in the game it is- typical AVB). I can remember one instance this whole season where he messed up the offside trap, just one.
Reading his zone? Again, I'm skeptical. Vertonghen is good enough where I see him command the entire left side, even doing some of BAE's work on the left. His ability to play LB and CB helps him here, and he dominates an entire side. If you want to see his ability to read his zone, please rewatch the North London Derby.
Commanding his line? He was captain at Ajax and he's been the best defender for Spurs this year by far. He's done fine. I will concede perhaps this is a point that is fair- because when he has played with Dawson (a more vocal, inspiring leader at the back and captain), they have been excellent together at the back, but with Gallas and Caulker, things sometimes get a bit tricky.
But Caulker is young and inexperienced and Gallas is shite, so that is unfair criticism I think. I want to see Vertonghen with Kaboul but who knows when Kaboul will be ready.
When speaking of Vertonghen before and even now you keep mentioning Ajax. Let's not forget Ajax's defense as a whole. What's important now is that he's been carrying a Spurs backline that didn't even stabilize until the middle of January, and has been one of the best defenders in the league, easily. He's showing immense amounts of class right now.

Re: Jan Vertonghen is a Monster
Not to mention he is easily the best one on one defender in the Premier League.
Honestly, I can't think of any defender I would put ahead of him in the Premier League.
