@billionmillion, please read the arguments at the first pages correctly.
I assure you that reading them will at least point to the right direction when speaking about past greats.

@OP, I guess you can have your own opinion, and I regret that my arguments could not alter your POV at all. (I really hope you read them at least).
Also, I did not set out to say that Pele is the BEST EVER, just that he is deserving of his Tier 1 spot. Messi did not finish yet, and hence cannot be in contention, yet. (See Owen's case to understand why).

As for the Garrincha Pele debate, based on the footage I have, and the professional assessment. Pele edges Garrincha simply because he was more devoted to the game. I think Gar is more talented, but he woul always be party animal first, and footballer second. Look at it this way, what if Ronaldinho was as devoted as Messi (who strikes high points for that).

Yeah, its a shame some footballers are just so immature, Cassano really destroyed his potential, and Balo is doing the same thing.

One of the main reasons we are talking so much about Messi and CR today (aside from the obvious talent) is the amount of devotion they put into their game. There are many rough gems out there, but it requires sweat and blood to polish those gems. We shouldn't let all the work go unnoticed.

Pele is definitely the best player ever.

1st - The golden ball is not given to the best players, sometimes the best ones do not get it.
2nd - South America was the boss until the 90's. Thats when Europe started to import our starts.
3rd - If you mention Argentina and Brazil (Many people did), mention Uruguay, because Uruguay untill the beggining of the 90's was the boss in South America.
4th - Offtopic, but just so you know, Uruguay will win its 15th Copa America this year.

Uruguay was of course top then (hopefully they regain that statues), In fact, all the Uruguay national team players played in their own league. Which was boss as well. In fact, the Brazilian and Uruguay league were the stronger leagues in SA in the 1960's.

50 years from now there will be people who will say that Messi is not the best of all time and so forth and so forth. As long as the game keeps advancing time will slowly erase past figueres and create new ones in their place.
