Should more teams play with one DM, and rely more on pressing to get the ball ?

But its very hard to establish and maintain that kind of system. Not everyone is Barca.

Hell, 1 dimensional DMs aren't even that common nowadays. Most defensively minded guys are more workhorses than anything, and are expected to pass, push forwards and move just like any other player.
If you have a defensively minded guy in the double pivot, the other is always going to be a creative type.

We have played 4-3-3 with lone DM this season, infact sometimes we have played 4-3-3 with no DM's :lol!:

Easy to say, hard to find the right player.
I get what the OP means though.
Instead of two players, one player deep to start plays with his composure (Alonso, Pirlo, Arteta et al) and needing another to cover his ass defensively (Sami, Vidal, Song et al) you can someone who excels in both areas (Busquets) and thus frees up room elsewhere to play more playmaker types.
But again, finding those kinds of players is very rare now because of years we have seen more and more "specialists" who really are incomplete players who seem capable of only doing one job at a time.

Most teams alreadydo play with only one DM.
Bayern has Gustavo. Schweinsteiger is a box to box playmaker (most complete midfielder in the world), and Kroos is a playmaker/attacking mid.
Juventus have Vidal. Pirlo is a pure DLP and Marchisio is a box to box.
Real have Khedira. Alonso is similar to Schweini, aka not a DM.
City have Yaya/De Jong. Barry is obviously not a DM.
Milan play with 2 DMs sometimes, but only because of all their injury problems. Not sure how Chelsea usually plays, but they used to play with Essien as a lone DM with Ballack/
Ramires/Lampard around him.
United used to play with no pure DM, with Fletcher and Carrick, though Scholes used to play too whose a DM.
Dortmund plays with Bender when healthy. Gundogan is a playmaker.
Schalke plays with Jermaine Jones. Holtby/Jurado are attacking mids.

u need to have makelele to be able to play with just 1 DM.he was awesome for madrid
4 1 2 1 2 was such a great formation for madrid ,they played the most sexy football ever with that formation

That formation might not work as well now though in all honesty.
2 out and out strikers, your giving up the midfield to be outnumbered.
Especially when the only one intrested in defending in that midfield would be Makelele and the only one intrested in defending in attack was Raul.
Just not enough overall workrate to be feasable.

yeah, i would have no faith for that formation, it was looking more like a 442 anyway, with Zidane on the left and driving inward. No player alone can do that job, and even makelele had support.

VDB wanted to buy Nesta, so that half decent CB would be there, but the formation doesnt really work.
