Quite a few people, actually. He is more consistent and has won more at the highest stage - Ronaldo never lifted a CL, Messi is competing for his 4th right now.

You can make exactly the same argument to why R9 don't have a CL as to why Messi don't have and probably never will have a WC gold medal. While Ronaldo have 2 gold and 1 silver.
He never played in a great club team. Put prime 1996-2002 Ronaldo uninjured in the Barcelona of today...

Ronaldo won 2 World Cups. Messi has never won 1.

Heck I don't think Messi have had a better season in Barca yet than R9 had when he was 20 in 1996-97. That Barca team, albeit having alot of great names, was not even close to the Barca of today.
But I guess most people here wasn't old enough to even see the top part of Ronaldos career live.
Just the fact that he was out injured for 3 years and then made a comeback for the 2002 WC and steamrolled the whole competition.

Sigh. Messi has surpassed R9. He is a better goal scorer, better dribbler and is more decisive than R9 ever was in his whole career. R9 had more talent but his peak passed way too soon.

I think Messi is a better finisher. Pace and strength would only matter if Messi was not as agile. Messi' agility more than makes up for what he lacks in pace.
As far as i am concerned, Messi contributes a lot to this Barcelona more than Ronaldo could ever do. That is the reason i say Messi is better than him.
But, to each, his own.

Ironically Rivaldo was Brazils best player in that WC you speak up. The one time R9 had to shine was 98 and we all know what happened. This arguement is futile. Messi is more consistent nad has achiveed more than R9 could dream of.

Based on what? In the air? because Barcelona play a lot of long balls. Messi is a better finisher. Messi is a better dribbler and messi plays more decisive passes than R9 ever did.

47 goals in 49 games for Barca as a 20 year old. Playing with a team that was so far off the WC+Euros winning team that is catering to Messis needs that it's not even funny.

This Barcelona team is not catering to Messi. Messi is catering to it.
People keep saying without Messi, this team would be nothing. And then, they turn around and say Messi is hugely benefited by his team. You can't have it both ways.
As far as i am concerned, Messi's pitch impact is greater than Ronaldo's.

And i dont think anyone argued that Messi's best was better than R9's best just that hes accomplished much more at club level and more consistent

Ronaldo's 2 almost career ending injuries to Messi's 0. Like somebody just said he was injured for ages and then came back and destroyed the World Cup. I don't want to see Messi get injured like that but it would interesting to see how good he would be after such an injury.
