Its not about "best midfielders of all time" though is it.
Its about a team that actually functions. I assume that was Jibbers idea.
yup and mine
It seems alot of these teams posted are simply the best ever players chucked together with no real link, majority of which will never work
Thank you
to OP Ronaldinho and Zidanes as CM

Dude you arent getting the point. This would be team I would create if I wanted to have a very functional like Barcelona team. Tell me who should replace Busquets, please...give me names. As Dani has already pointed out the flaws using Redondo and Makelele. I would say Pep, but Busquets is a much better player for what I require, and he is a better tackler, Pep would be better if I needed a great passing range as he usually started attacking moves andf made killer passes from the back, but I have the Kaiser for that.

Viera wasn't a hiolding MF, he was a b2b Cm. He didnt just sit in front of the back four and protect them, why would I want a player like that as my Anchor?

Re: Picking an All-time World XI
Redondo and Makalele can work. What can't work is Redondo and Maka alone in the midfield. Most midfields have 3 players so no matter how awesome those 2 are, they'll be overrun easily...

Re: Picking an All-time World XI
Busquets over Redondo?
What? Anyone who saw the Man U vs Real Madrid game where he completly bossed Man Us midfield knows the man was as great defender as a attacker, and could be disciplined enough to stay further back and not commit too much in to attacks.
Fergie himself admitted that was one of the best defensive showings he has ever seen ffs

Nope I would just rather pick Busquets seeing as I want the job to be done EXACTLY the way he is doing it at Barcelona. What better person than him?

Pirri could do the job imo, but I see your reasoning over Biscuits

However, if you want a great ball playing holding midfielder on your team, its quite logical.
The only other options you could go with are probably Redondo and Matthaus, both of whom are far more vertical than Busquets and drove forward with the ball way more than Busquets, which is not something everyone wants when you go the attacking players ahead of them.

Ok, I must admit, that team MAY cause some issues. Probably the only thing my team has over yours is real width. And I'll be hoping Zico and Di Stefano fall out...

Doesn't mean much. Are you telling me Busuqets was a better holding mid than Redondo? I dare to say no. I'm not even afraid of saying Redondo was a better DM than Busquets was, in terms of defending. Even attacking ffs.
He was one of these rare players that only comes once in a century that can defend extremly well and still manage to attack without forgetting his defensive duties.
Still can't believe the Busquets choice. Busquets is great, but he has in noway surpassed Mattheus or Redondo.

Rijkaard perhaps.
Albeit I've proably cumulatively watched him play less than 3 hours lol.

This is not about X>Y if not I would have put Maradona in my team ffs. I tred toi make a functional team, Redondo used to bomb forward and support attacks a lot of the time, I thought about putting him there, but I just feel he is too good for the role that Busquets does. I want this team to play very similar football to Barcelona, Busquets has done the job so far, Redondo never played in any team like Barcelona, therefore, Busquets.

Yea saw Pirri. hmmm...you have got a very solid point. And how could I forget Rijkaard He did a nearly identical jiob for Saachis Milan as well, albeit he usually played much longer balls. Yea Rijkaard or Pirri could go in there I suppose.

The choice of Busquets is controversial because it gives the impression that he is "______ of all time" sort of player. The man is an excellent player and Jibers (after 2 pages) explained exactly why he wants him there. Totally understandable stuff but I do feel they are other players that can do what Busquets does equally and possibly better.
As for the 2nd part of the statement, the thread title is "All time" not what player you saw. I don't think old man Crims was alive to see Pirri play but I assure you he has seen enough of him through tapes (or time portal) to know he is worthy of praise. Such a thinking maybe applied to others here...

Redodno was very vertical in his play. Biscuits more horizontal.
I'd actually go with Sammer over Biscuits.
