Lavezzi is not in good form right now, I wouldn't risk reverting to 433 without a proper holding midfielder at the moment, because it would end up being like a 4231 with Brana and Gago as the double pivot. Can't believe I'm saying it but I would like 442 with Sosa

On another note, I would say that we can start with 4-4-2 with the almighty Sosa in the midfield and see how Paraguay approach us. I'm sure we can sneak in a few goals with Higuamessidimaria on the field. We can switch to a 4-3-3 and go for the kill if we feel that Paraguay are hard to break down. Instead of Lavezzi I might bring out Palacio but that's just me.

Also, Coloccini's chances of starting are low hope he at LEAST comes out as a sub this time.

Fully agreed, I don't like seeing Lavezzi ostracized but he needs to go back to his Napoli form soon because he has world class potential but imo never showed it for Argentina when it mattered. He has much to prove. It does seem like he will get the nod though.

I also agree on Palacio he has hit the ground running at Inter and could add another dynamic to the team.

It seems Garay - FedFern is basically set in stone now. At least it is a consistent duo.

I'm still worried about the fullbacks. Rojo has played better under Sabella mostly at least. Clemente is old, Zabaleta unreliable and Campagnaro like Rojo is not a natural FB , having two non natural fullbacks could be a big negative, as we may lack width.

It annoys me to no end how everyone is talking about what a great progress we've made in the past 2 years and how we're on the right track - first off, we won't be one of the best 3 teams entering the WC in 2 years, second off, keeping a humble head is very important.

We shouldn't get a head of ourselves just yet but the team is making progress as a team, which is what they lacked in previous years.

Argentina are part of the favorites heading into any world cup anyhow, regardless of the way the progress is seen there will still be massive pressure on the team to succeed. It's most likely make or break for our golden generation in 2014.

Anyway, for today's match I'll be happy with a W but I'd love for the team to put on another show. Paraguay have been struggling but are always a sturdy team and shouldn't be written off.

Also it seems we are probably going to play something like a 4231, hopefully it works better than the last time we used it (copa america).

The main difference between the formation used by Sabella and that used by Pep Batista is the defence. Batista's defence was Zanetti--Milito-Burdisso-Rojo(which is horrible)


Our defence right now is Campagnaro----Garay---Fernandez-----Rojo and while Rojo is shit, he is tall and can defend set pieces well. Of course, it could be better with Ansaldi as LB and Rodriguez as RB but you can't have everything.

Another difference between Batista's team and Sabella's team is that the attack actually breaks down defences much better. The attacking players are getting into much better positions and making better runs. Whether Sabella himself was responsible for this, I am not sure but our efficiency in attack (chemistry, understanding etc.) is certainly much better. If we continue playing the same attack each time, it will only increase our efficiency.
