What's going on with Pique?

Ramos has played more than double the matches for Real Madrid than any other current player other than Casillas lol.

I know time goes by extremely quickly. Only yesterday I remember 20 year old Ramos going in two footed long after the ball had went somewhere else on various occasions in one match

As for the tradition I agree, it makes things simple and any drama surrounding it is instantly cut. (like with England).

Ramos is for me is definitely better on the ball than Pique.

Seriously lol, he's had a fantastic season but Pique is tried and tested performer and almost always is top notch in the big games.

While Ramos has been meh at best against Valencia and Barca this season.

Let Ramos lead Madrid to CL glory and victories over Barca and MOTM or close to MOTM performances like Pique has and then talk.

I haven't said Ramos is better than Pique if you were referring to me.

If I had to pick the best cb in Spain I would say Puyol, he never gives up an he is an amazing leader, and an awesome defender!!

Pique is the best ball-playing centerback in the world. This is not up for debate. This is fact.

As for Pique, some of his performances have been subpar by his standards, but he almost always brings it for the big matches.

The first point is full of idiocy.

Pique is better than Ramos. Ramos is showing this season that he can perform well and consistently at CB. If he can keep up this level of performance he will be one the best CBs in the world. Pique has had some subpar performances this year. Whether that's down to enthusiasim or motivation it's quite clear that he needs to step up.

Puyol? Even the most die hard Barca fan will tell you that he is becoming a shadow of his former self. This has not been a good season for him and even he knows that. The age and injuries have caught up. No where near being the best CB in Spain so where the hell did that come from?

Using Ronaldo as a yardstick for Pique's ability is "laughable".

If Ronaldo plays to his absolute best in el Clasicos, and still gets "owned" by Pique, then hats off to Pique. But Pique has been playing against a Ronaldo who has been playing at 50% of his maximum ability. Pique's a great player, but not because he has comprehensively outskilled an on- form (el clasico- wise) Ronaldo.

Plus, if you put Ramos in a possession based side, you'll see him shine. His NT form is a testament to that. Coincidentally, Ramos has been doing better recently, since Madrid has become a bit more possession- oriented.

Excuses, Ronaldo has been in Barcelona's back pocket since his United days ffs. That said Pique is ovverated,there are much better defenders out there. He works well in a unit, but If I had a striker breakin loose and I needed a defender back it certainly won't be him. Ramos is just clumsy. Makes so many basic defensive mistakes like in every Madrid game.

Yeh he is a CB, but so is Ramos and he has chances created by through balls.

Benzema is the worst player I have ever seen when it comes to headers lol.

Even short passes. Despite the style of play of Barcelona's Ramos has actually got a higher completion rate.

But look how much more direct you are than us. If Pique attemped a through ball Pep would have his head on a plate. When he comes forward, its because there are 10 men behind the ball and he is free to come forward without challange. Once he gets forward, he isnt going to make a splitting pass, we have to probe the defence.

Benzema might not be a good header of the ball but he is 6 feet tall and strong, of course he is going to have a better chance of winning long balls than Messi or Sanchez. You know this.

Ramos has a higher completion rate of short passes? Because Pique's short passes arent always to the man just in front of him or off to the side. He tries more difficult balls into midfield than Ramos, thats clear.

Stats dont tell you the whole story, especially not when in come to passing.

Keita has a better % than Busquets, both play the same position. But guess who is the better passer.

I know, but it isn't just a defense splitting pass he would play. I remember Ramos playing two consecutive long balls from the half way line that both played Ronaldo through on goal and scored twice. Ramos is one of the best ball playing centre backs in the world and it can be seen just by watching him play. Both him and Pique are top 5 and it is close.

Benzema might be taller and stronger, but he certainly hasn't shown that he is good in the air lol.

And tbh it is not really fair to compare Keita and Busquets since Busquets has nearly double the average passes per game. The more passes you play the lower the percentage.

Mate, Benzema is going to win any longer ball more often than Sanchez or Messi, you cant argue that.

I know Pique plays more sideways passes than Ramos, he is going to because he plays more passes in general. Just because he plays more sideways doesnt mean he cant play more passes forward.

There is a reason Busquets has more passes per game than Keita, its because he is better with the ball therefore is more trusted with it. It goes hand in hand.
