19-year old Julian Draxler to make his 100th appearance for Schalke in the Revier Derby tomorrow.

That's an unreal stat for a kid who isn't even 20 yet.

Could he possibly be on track to break some appearance records later on in his career?

Very much possible Very Happy

Jule already played in the CL for Schalke when he was barely 17. His then coach Felix Magath almost got into trouble with the German laws for the protection of youth as an underage kid isn't allowed to work after 23:00 no matter what and some of the CL matches could have lasted that long XD

A top young player from what I've seen of him. Sebastian Deisler was one of my favorite German players when I was younger. Draxler reminds me a bit of him: Insanely talented for his age. Just hope he lasts longer than Deisler. That was a tough pill to swallow when he retired so early in his career.

Well, I think Julian Draxler is firmly grounded. He completed his school education with the Fachabitur last year, and as things stand, he will likely stay at Schalke a while longer still. His contract runs till 2016, and I'm pretty sure that he will not move abroad on a whim. From a recent interview it seems that Benedikt Höwedes is considering to sign a contract extension soon, and Jule said he was looking forward to play together with "Bene" for a while longer.

Sebastian Deisler's problem was that he left his home club BMG too early, so he didn't have his healthy environment to ground him when all the hype hit him. This together with his frequent injury problems brought him out of balance and he never managed to recover until he hung up his boots.

ATM he is doing running training again, so it shouldn't take too long until he gets into the proper team training again. A date for his return isn't set though.

Derby win!

Schalke got back into the CL places' reach with a 2:1 home win over big rivals Dortmund. In the first half they dominated Dortmund at will and led 2:0, in the second half, Dortmund took the steering wheel, but only managed to get one goal back in for the final result of 2:1.

*sighs* So Galatasaray Istanbul managed to kick out Schalke after all, and it was a highly unnecessary defeat, as one could see in the second half that ScChalke could fight, even though they lacked a proper target man in front of the goal after the Hunter and Cyprian Marica were both out due to injuries and Teemu Pukki just couldn't step up enough.

Ah well, on the plus side they can now concentrate on thew Bundesliga and cement their qualification for the next CL run, and hopefully then they will do better.

Well, right now Kyriakos Papadopoulus is still injured - he had to have another surgery two or so weeks ago, IIRC - and it is still not known when he will return to play. The interviews I read of him were rather favourable to Schalke, so we will have to wait and see.

Sport1 will show Schalke 04 vs Al Sadd live + free at 17:25 GMT+2, that is, in five minutes! cheers

BTW, Julian Draxler said that he talked with Raúl when the big money offers dropped in for him this summer - and Raúl suggested to him to stay at least one more year at Schalke.

Al Sadd:  22 Naim, 5 Ali, 7 Raúl, 8 Al Hamad, 9 Nisng, 13 Asad, 18 da Silva, 19 Nabil, 39 Belhahj, 70 Khidir, 75 Schorch

Schalke 04: Fährmann - Höger, Matip, Santana, Fuchs - Jones, Neustädter - Farfan, Pukki, Clemens - Szalai

In the first half, Raúl is playing for Al Sadd; in the second half, he will wear the Schalke jersey one last time.

03.) 1:0 - Jefferson Farfán (PK)
08.) 2:0 - Adam Szalai
25.) 3:0 - Adam Szalai
31.) 4:0 - Jefferson Farfán
56.) 5:0 - Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
58.) 6:0 - Leon Goretzka
59.) 7:0 - Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
65.) 8:0 - Raúl
70.) 9:0 - Raúl (PK)

FT - Schalke 04 9:0 Al Sadd

Gracias y adios Raúl!

Well, I'm hopeful Schalke can cause some upsets, too. Well, actually they did last season by winning both Revierderbies against Dortmund ^^  They should try to win more against the lower parts of the BL table, too.

Last I heard, Timo Hildebrand will stay Schalke's Nr.1 for the season. *sighs* I would so have loved to see Yann Sommer between the sticks there!

Well, FC Basel 1893 have no need to sell, so they will ask a considerable transfer fee. I guess Schalke are too stingy to pay around 8 mio Euros. But next summer, Yann Sommer only has 1 year left on his contract, and Timo Hildebrand won't get any younger, so who knows? Maybe they will go for him then!

Spoiler:
Cool, a reason to post another cute Yann Sommer pic <3

Well, I wonder what they will to with Lars Unnerstall and Ralf Fahrmann. They both have a contract till 2015 (I never understood why both got a contract extension rather recently), but I doubt either of them will be happy to be sitting in the stands when Timo Hildebrand plays. Interestingly Hildebrand's contract runs out in 2014, so I'm really hoping he will be replaced then.

Both could start for decent BL teams. It's a wonder why they both play as back ups.

Indeed. AFAIK Lars Unnerstall had an offer for a 1 year loan to Energie Cottbus, but it didn't materialise in the end. He really should try to go to some team where he can be the Nr.1 as he needs a lot of match practise to improve and prove himself.

Teemu Pukki will be leaving Schalke 04 for Celtic Glasgow as of today. The clubs already agreed on the transfer and Pukki was released from his contract at Schalke - he only needs to put his signature down at Celtic now. It's a pity it didn't work out for Pukki at Schalke as he was quite a fan favourite. Sad
