The big fat CB happens most places, Its norm in every country. You want to lose the ball through a goal kick that can't reach the half line right? I've played district twice and witnessed a few states matches as part of my district training. It happened in that as well.

And tbh each of my school team players would have got into the state team easily. Which confirms the problems my previous post addressed.

Not good to see an embarrassment that is our national team however.

But thats mainly due to our culture, etc. People would rather see their kids get some type of degree than become a professional athlete. Unless we're talking about cricket of course.

I wonder if the growth in Asian/Oceanic club competition such as China, Japan, Korea and Australia will see some tapping into the talent pools in India any time soon.

It will take time before these leagues move away from being retirement leagues where yesterdays heroes go to hang up their boots.. but it will happen. Once that transition from a retirement league into development league takes place, you will see youth academies and grassroots programs improve the quality of the NT of countries like India.

I guess it also depends on whether or not Football ever really takes off in India.. but then you only need for it to become the preferred sport in a couple of states.

I've wonder for a while why India is not even on the map of world football with 1 billion population.

I knew cricket was more popular (national sport ?), i guess India doesn't share China/Qatar's ambitions when it comes to football. As someone from North America, the lack of quality balls and people playing barefoot instead of wearing boots are issues that never crossed my mind.

Barefoot is not a norm, I've addressed that in the previous page Warrior. But yes this thread covers all the points about our problem. Our government has always been regressive while people advance towards modernization in all sectors..

Well, the recent growth albeit gradually is a sign of good things to come hopefully. ISL has played its part, no one can deny that. Theres definitely more interest in the last 2 or 3 years compared to prior. Hopefully the U17 world cup happening in October this year will give us a better picture.
