Test match Swansea vs Borussia M'gladbach

Swansea: Lukasz Fabianski, Kyle Naughton, Kyle Bartley, Ashley Williams (capt), Franck Tabanou, Jay Fulton, Ki Sung-Yueng, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Nathan Dyer, Andre Ayew, Bafe Gomis.

Borussia (1. Half): Sippel – Jantschke, Brouwers, Elvedi, Nkansah – Stindl, Schulz – Traoré, Ritter – Raffael, Hahn
Borussia (2. Half): Sippel – Korb, Christensen, Elvedi, Nkansah – Dahoud, Sow – Traoré (69. Ndenge), Ritter – Hrgota, Drmic

Goals:
14.) 1:0 - Ibrahima Traoré
68.) 1:1 - Grimes

FT - Swansea 1:1 Borussia M'gladbach

In the second half, Borussia played with a veritable kindergarden - their team was younger than their normal U23 team (after Ndenge came on, the average age of the Gladbach players on the pitch was 20.45 years) Laughing

FT - Borussia M'gladbach 2:1 FC Porto

Luckily this was only a test match as the referee Guido Winkmann seemed to be still on vacation and favoured FC Porto a lot in the first half (no booking against them despite commiting rougher fouls, penalty against Porto no given etc.). In the second half, the match slowly petered out a bit.

Not on German Free TV, sorry. Sport1 show Köln vs Stoke instead. You can only view it on Gladbach's Fohlen.TV who will stream it, but sadly you need to pay for that.

Köln vs Stoke is transmitted to TV and Newcastle vs Gladbach is not, in spite of being 10 times more attractive.

@Mole
Well, Gladbach still have 10 days until they have to play the first competitive match against FC St.Pauli (DFB-Pokal 1st round), so they are possibly not at 100% yet either. We'll see how the match will develop! Sadly, Martin Stranzl is missing out injured, and this means the defense lacks their captain.

@Vlad
I suspect that Sport1 prefers the Köln match as it is in Germany and thus less expensive for them to produce.

I'm pretty sure there are a few strong reasons why Sport1 prefers the Köln match, but for me as a neutral fan it's a disappointment. Nothing we can do.

Usually "money" is the strongest reason of them all, and there is not much money to be gained with test matches of cloubs that are not Real, Barca, Bayern, ManUtd etc -_-

Lucien Favre walks on new paths as he decided that he won't nominate one player as team captain for the season. He stated that he is going to give the captain's armband to the player he considers appropriate before each match, just as he already did for the test matches in the pre-season.

The players are fine with the idea. Granit Xhaka commented that in the team no one acts up as big boss anyway.

The "captain's armband rotation" is a completely new idea in the Bundesliga as no other club ever did that before.

Not sure I agree with that.

For example, when John Terry was stripped of the England captaincy around 2010, a few players came out and said that even without the armband, he was still the leader on the field.

And the exact same thing would happen with us, regardless of who had the armband, Terry would be our leader.

Which means that Favre either doesn't think the side has a leader in it, or regardless of who has the armband, the same person is going to do the leading.

I can't see a different player opting to lead the team one game, just because he is named captain, and then not doing the same in another because he wasn't named captain. That just sounds lazy and downright silly.

And if they don't see any one player as a leader, why not build one? Someone young who could stay long term, like Jantschke, Herrmann or Sommer?

Well, I think Lucien Favre takes into account the amount of rotation he uses for his field players. The only player who played each match was Yann Sommer, while the field players all were rotated heavily.

If they go for the player who is the one who takes the lead on the pitch, it would be Granit Xhaka, but as he collects bookings like other people collect stamps, he is suspended ever so often and thus he probably wouldn't be the best choice to wear the armband.

Martin Stranzl and Tony Jantschke, who would also be candidates, miss out many matches either due to injuries or heavy rotation, so the armband would go to someone else anyway. The same goes for Patrick Herrmann who usually was either subbed in or subbed out early most of the time.

I guess this would indeed leave Yann Sommer as best viable option, but I have no idea how Favre thinks of Goalies as team captain.

So I guess the armband would likely go to many different players in any case, so why bothering naming one player...

So why not name a club captain and a group of vice captains? Instead of rotating?

LOL, one guy (not the tennis player, just a namesake, btw) who played FM15 got sacked by the virtual Borussia M'gladbach and complained to the real Borussia - and was pretty surprised that he actually got an answer:
