Europa League Group Stage Matchday 2:

FC Zürich vs Borussia M'gladbach

FC Zürich: Da Costa - Djimsiti, Kecojevic, Nef - Kukeli, Yapi - Schönbächler (84. Koch), Chiumiento, Rikan (20. Rodriguez) - Etoundi, Chermiti (90.+1 Rossini)

Spoiler:

Borussia M'gladbach: Sommer - Korb, Stranzl, Jantschke, Dominguez (84. Wendt) - Nordtveit, Xhaka - Hahn (73. Herrmann), Hazard (67. Traore) - Hrgota, Max Kruse

Spoiler:

Goals:
23.) 1:0 - Franck Etoundi
25.) 1:1 - Håvard Nordtveit

After the first goal, the Zürich fans were so ecstatic that they lighted pyrotechnics behind David da Costa's goal. The smoke was so thick that the goalie obviously wasn't able to see the ball when Nordfight let go a great long distance shot.

FT - FC Zürich 1:1 Borussia Mönchengladbach

At least something nice to look at after the disappointing result:

Bundesliga Matchday 7 - Sunday 5 Oct 2014

Borussia M'gladbach vs FSV Mainz 05

BMG: Sommer - Korb, Stranzl (c), Jantschke, Wendt - Kramer, G.Xhaka - Herrmann (70. Hahn), F.Johnson (70. Hazard) - Raffael - M.Kruse

Mainz: Karius - Bell, Bungert (c), Jara - Brosinski, Junior Diaz - Moritz (63. Geis), Baumgartlinger - Hofmann (78. Malli), Djuricic (60. Jairo) - Okazaki

Goals:
15.) 1:0 - Max Kruse (assist by Fabian Johnson)
32.) 1:1 - Jonas Hofmann (Hand Penalty)

FT - Borussia M'gladbach 1:1 FSV Mainz 05

Gahh. Manuel Gräfe (ref in the BMG - Mainz match) doesn't seem to like Gladbach at all. Got Mainz a dubious hand penalty when the only way to avoid that for Julian Korb would have been sawing off his arm No

So now BMG got 4 goals against in 7 matches and two of them were penalties (plus 1 additional penalty that was skied by Admir Mehmedi). Looks like the refs don't like the idea of BMG having a good defensive record Borussia Mönchengladbach - Page 6 2276801876

14.) 0:1 - Max Kruse (assist by Alvaro Dominguez)
49.) 0:2 - Granit Xhaka
90.) 0:3 - Max Kruse (assist by Thorgan Hazard)

Yup. Looked good. He started today and played the full 90 minutes and had one assist and one beautiful pre-assist. He could have had a goal, too, but he missed a sitter at the end of the first half. But a very bright talent, that!

Another clean sheet for Yann Sommer! cheers
Oh, and BMG is still unbeaten in this season (9xBL, 5xEL and 1xDFB-Pokal)

I just hope Granit Xhaka's injury isn't too bad - he would be sorely missed.

By the way - Yann Sommer and Manuel Neuer are really running head to head with their performances. After today's game, Yann Sommer has a save percentage of 90% and Manuel Neuer a whopping 90.48%

Well, unfortunately BMG lost Granit Xhaka due to a ligament rupture and capsule tear in his ankle, so we will have to see how Håvard Nordtveit and Mo Dahoud will step up during him being sidelined. It is not clear yet how long he will be out, but it is a couple of weeks for sure. Sad

Europa League Group Stage Matchday 4:

Apollon Limassol vs Borussia M'gladbach

Borussia Mönchengladbach - Page 6 Apl10

Borussia Mönchengladbach - Page 6 Bmg10

Goals:
55.) 0:1 - Raffael (assist by Thorgan Hazard)
90+5.) 0:2 - Patrick Herrmann (assist by André Hahn)

FT - Apollon Limassol 0:2 Borussia M'gladbach

Boring, boring match. But BMG managed to win despite not playing well for once. In the past they would have drawn or even lost such a match in the last minutes, but today they actually scored the second goal in injury time instead of getting the equalizer.

On the plus side - the current Gladbach team of Lucien Favre finally set a new record of 18 matches unbeaten from the start of a season, thus surpassing the old unbeaten record of Hennes Weisweiler's original "Fohlenelf" from 1970/71 who became German champions that year.

Do BMG play in conventional/conservative 442! I don't have any idea about them aside some faint idea about Hazard (winger), Nordtveit (DM) and Kramer (B2B).

Well, they have a very solid defensive line of four behind the currently second best goalkeeper of the Bundesliga, ideally a great double pivot with Christoph Kramer who tidies up things defensively if need be, while Granit Xhaka (who is still injured, but on the road to recovery) provides the creative spark.

Add to that lightning fast wingers (of which Lucien Favre has an ample choice for 2 positions, so he can rotate them freely and keep them perfectly fresh) and a nice SS/CF combination, for example Raffael and Max Kruse, and you have a team that is more than solid in defense and provides sufficient punch forward, too.

Moreover, they are able to do extremely fast transitions between defense and attack and are thus a fantastic counter team who even gave Bayern a run for their money. (That BMG didn't win that match was only courtesy of Manuel Neuer's world class performances.)

BMG: Sommer - Korb, Stranzl, Jantschke, Alvaro Dominguez - Kramer, Nordtveit (46. Wendt) - Hahn, Herrmann (75. Traoré) - Raffael (65. T.Hazard) - M.Kruse

Goals:
58.) 1:0 - Christoph Kramer (own goal  )

FT - Borussia Dortmund 1:0 Borussia M'gladbach

Everybody's trying to console Christoph Kramer...

Actually the win by Dortmund was okay as they had 22 shorts on goal (6 of them on target), while Gladbach only managed 1 measly shot which was not even on target. On the other hand, if they wouldn't have been gifted that own goal, the match could have ended 0:0 as Yann Sommer was simply world class today.

Especially their effectivity in front of the goal... I mean, they had 22 shots on goal, 6 of them on target - and the match would have ended 0:0 if not for Christoph Kramer's own goal...
