both Hikaru Utada and Sakamoto Ryuichi are new yorkers now... utada Hikaru born in new york, and ryuichi having lived and worked in there for more than 20 years now....

Utada's one of her influence is SR... so maybe she did the cover version of Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence...
