Duff was pretty much the same as Robben in departure. Mutual agreement.

Different scenario.

Point is, we do no sell our star players. Not if they don't want to leave - which is the case almost 100% of the time, even Anelka of all people was happy here.

We hardly dump star players without giving them time either(see Torres).

There's really nothing Barca can offer any of our players that we can't, except the player is a sucker for their history(in which case, he might as well go to Liverpool).

You KNOW its not going to happen. Not now or in the near future. You just WANT it to happen. Sorry Sheddy Laughing

No players before have A.) been particularly wanted by other clubs, or B.) wanted to leave. The former is now at play here, and I suspect so may be the latter (and not because of the useless Fail article I posted earlier, but common sense)

Barca is a bigger club, in a better-off position than we are right now, and have more prestige both from a historical standpoint as well as a contemporary one. There a few players in the world who wouldn't happily dump their current clubs to be an essential automatic starter at 'the' Barcelona. Luiz would be no different, I'd wager.

As to whether or not the club would sell him, I don't know. Are they keen on keeping a player who desires to be elsewhere (not that I'm saying he does)? I don't know. And even if they were willing to let him go for the right price, would the fact that's it's so late in the window and that there are so few obvious replacement possibilities available change their standpoint? Probably. And finally, as to whether or not I WANT to see him gone - as I've said before, if a crazy offer in the £35m-£40m range came in, I'd help him pack his bags myself.

And I'm not saying we're on the same level as Barca historically. Obviously not. I'm saying in terms of top club status, we're are up there these days. In terms of competing for trophies every season, there's no doubt we do that. We've only had 2 trophy-less seasons in 10 years. In terms of wages, we can pay as well as anyone in the world. And no, not every player would leave their club to play for the Barcelona, including a good number of Chelsea players. Tell that to a Man United or Bayern Munich player btw and you'll get the same answer. You can even throw Juventus in there.

You haven't said he desires to be elsewhere, to your credit but then there's no need to bring that up. He hasn't even hinted that in the slightest bit. If there's one player in the squad not named Terry or Lampard who loves this club more than anyone else, its Luiz.

A crazy offer can buy anyone from any club. If Madrid get a £300M offer from PSG for Ronaldo, they'll sell him. If Barca get a £600M(his release clause is actually in this region btw) offer for Messi, they'll sell him as well. Of course if we get a crazy offer(not in the price range you mentioned btw, considering the rejected bid was £35M) we'll sell Luiz as well.

Apart from City/JT, did any of those clubs make concrete bids for any of those players in the way Barca now have? And besides, none of those teams were better off than Chelsea as Barca are.

We've won the League once in the last 7. Fail to sign a quality striker in the next 3 weeks and we may as well make that 8 right on the spot, and we'll struggle in everything else as well. An opening bid being rejected means very little. As for Mourinho, he's a habitual liar. If he told me the time I wouldn't believe him. It's amazing how his entire career, his ideal center-half and/or midfield anchor is the exact OPPOSITE type of player Luiz is, yet now all of a sudden he's sooooo important to his plans. As I said there, no player who's 100%, unequivocally happy where he is and has zero interest in a prospective move away would be saying the things he has. He's quite obviously and publicly keeping his options open, and that in itself speaks volumes.

No evidence of that. Pure conjecture, if not wishful thinking. He also supposedly 'loved' Benfica as well, yet he was more than happy to dump them without a second thought when Chelsea came in for him.
