Not Silva. Silva was their best defender today. It was Alves that was completly ruining their defence becouse he was constantly raped by the winger.

I think with the 4-3-3 variations most of the teams in SA/Europe etc play today, the spare man is often a centre half. Given Luiz is excellent on the ball he is capable of using that to Brazil's advantage, stepping into midfield and finding a pass that can open things up for them instead of passing sideways to marked fullbacks.

As good as Lucio and Silva are/were they aren't anywhere as talented as Luiz is on the ball. Absolutely immense defender despite the defensive lapses torwards the end of the season, unbelievable really, has absolutely everything in his locker. Pacey, strong, great determination, wonderful on the ball & ridiculously aggressive. Adore defenders who think they can win every challenge.

No way in hell! David Luiz is not better than Lucio and Thiago Silva! He will take Lucio's spot in the near future but hes definitively not better than them now!

Better than Lucio at the moment, but from what I've seen, I don't think he's better than Silva. However, I haven't seen much of the Copa America so I can't really judge Silva's performance for Brazil. The Copa America was on at bloody school time, but luckily the holidays are starting so I can watch the games in the morning (I think).

Luiz would be half the player he currently is at DM. He wouldn't have the license to go forward as much as he does as a CB.

Also lol at the muppets claiming Luiz is an awful player based on him making 2 or 3 mistakes in 4 months of football in an entirely different League despite him putting in Beckenbauer-esque performances in about half of them.

Go look at Vidic's first few months at United if you think Luiz is "awful".

Only a muppet will claim Luiz put in Beckenbauer-esque performances in PL last season.Just scoring a couple of goals doesnt mean they are similar to Beckenbauer like performances.

He looked awful in half the games he played in PL last season.he may turn out to be quality nest season but that doesnt change the fact that he struggled in PL last season.
