At the Drive- in, The Mars Volta.
I realize that these bands aren't really indie bands, but their creative, almost a bit rough and disorganized use of vocals and instruments has always reminded me more of indie music than the more polished and "processed" pop/mainstream. The brilliance of both the vocalist and guitarist are included in both bands, and those two set the band apart from more mainstream artists.
