He cost 10m, and has been injured for a big period of time.
He's been pretty solid in my eyes, for the little bits I've seen.
Flacao has failed, big time.
Zapata has been the worst...
Forlan. Does he even play?
How has Falcao flopped?
12 goals in 18 apps. Leading a fairly new attack with Arda and Diego.

So many of you say X was bought for N, hence he is a flop. What does price have to do with flopping? If the player does not perform well, he is a flop. Simplez...
Pedro has flopped so far this season. But Villa has not flopped, albeit barely.

Re: Flops of the season so far?
Flopping isn't about performance necessarily but it's about failed expectations. If a player was bought for 100m euros his expectations won't be that high so if he doesn't play well, it's not as big of a deal and they don't "flop" as they weren't expected to perform well.kiranr wrote:So many of you say X was bought for N, hence he is a flop. Not to be mean and i'm not trolling but for a creative option upfront surely there were better players available than Jordan Henderson for 15 m pounds.
I guess his valuation raised after those perfomances against United and Chelsea last season at their respective home grounds.
Liverpool's low fee signings have been far far better and they're turning out to be very successful i must say.
And why isnt he playing behind the striker ?Thats where he used to play last season with Sunderland if i'm correct.

Well, it is not fair on the player. He did not ask to be valued so highly.
In any case, just because a player came for free, does not mean there are no expectations. If he does not perform on the pitch or makes a mistake that costs the team, then he is a flop. It does not matter whether there was any expectation. Because he is still being paid by the club.

Re: Flops of the season so far?
When you pay big bucks you expect big returns.Thats how competitive the sport is regardless of the circumstances of how the transfers took place.
Hypothetically speaking ,if Caroll fails to impress at Liverpool ,five years down the line nobody would be talking about the circumstances in which Caroll transfer happened. Its just used as a silly excuse really.
He would just be a player who was bought for big money but did very little to impress.
And you have the same people criticizing Torres's transfer which happened in just about the same circumstances.

Firstly, Henderson was bought for 12 + add ons.
Also. He is arguably the greatest talent in Britain right now that would fit the pass and move aka Kenny's style of play. He's been used as a utility player thus far for us playing RM, CAM, CM and CDM. He used to play mostly RM for Sunderland but would play he occasional CM role.
He's been moved to CDM ever since Leiva had the injury. :\

Re: Flops of the season so far?
Of the few games i watched him last season i saw him play as a trequartista.
But still with that same amount or even less you could have got someone like Pjanic who would have slotted in really well in Pool's system and who is definitely 2x talented than Henderson. There was Cazorla available as well.
Yeah i am aware of the fact that he has been playing much deeper in midfield ever since Lucas's injury.
On being the greatest talent in Britain i think wilshere and adam johnson are the two hot prospects of England imo

Cazorla is a different player...
No such thing as a trequartista in England...
And Adam Johnson is not even the best prospect of Manchester City let alone England.

Re: Flops of the season so far?
Mate if you're talking about Kenny's system on "pass and move" then Pjanic is the perfect player for it as he's an excellent passer and has great off the ball movement.
He's been one of the revalations of Roma this season.
Anyways no use debating hypothetical arguments and i will leave it at that.
Adam Johnson to City was a bad career move imo.I think you should try to loan him.He would do much better than Downing

No offence mate, but I honestly couldn't care less anymore.
Also, find it enlightening how you attack LFC's transfers when Juventus has flopped in recent years.

Re: Flops of the season so far?
Well i am not attacking if you took it that way then i apologize. My intention was to not take a dig at Pool honestly.
Liverpool is a club i really like in England,i am a well-wisher and i was just being cynical in my views.I honestly dont think Downing and Henderson are the real deals but at the end of the day i gladly hope i'm proved wrong.
Liverpool's ambition was get back to the Champions League Asap if i'm correct and this for me looks like a Roma rebuilding project which needs some more time.

Re: Flops of the season so far?
Carroll doesn't score. But he puts in 7/10 rating match consistently. Better than torres.
Downing. Lol .. He has been a good signing. He has hit the post 4 times and at least 15-20 crosses /passes have been squandered by Suarez alone.
Downing would have been on top of the assist charts if Suarez and Carroll would learn to finish.
Downing by no means deserves to be called the worst signing without any consideration.

Re: Flops of the season so far?
foundations of the offensive, possession-minded football
After Van Gaal left Barcelona, they appointed Rijkaard. He developed Van Gaal’s system, and eventually brought about European success in 2006. Rijkaard’s system is still in effect today, to a certain extent, although of course Guardiola has influenced it. Heynckes is doing something similar at Bayern
