Re: Flops of the season so far?
foundations of the offensive, possession-minded football
After Van Gaal left Barcelona, they appointed Rijkaard. He developed Van Gaal’s system, and eventually brought about European success in 2006. Rijkaard’s system is still in effect today, to a certain extent, although of course Guardiola has influenced it. Heynckes is doing something similar at Bayern

lol remmber when hamit was a testing machine van gaal used to play him whereever he could
He could have planned as a goalkeeper as long as Van Gaal is concerned, crazy man
crazy man but hell he is the reason barca is sucessful
facepalm me the way you like vaal introduces the system gets sacked and the ones that follow play on his system
You were born yesterday right?
yes yesterday
Well, just so you know, Barça system was brought by Johan Cruyff on 1988, not Van Gaal. Plus, after Van Gaal, there were several Barça coaches that didn't follow our usual system (Serra Ferrer and Antic most notably). Then came back Rijkaard and brought back our usual philosophy.
Mini-lecture on Barça history. You are welcome.

Well, whatever your source is, that is wrong. The possession based offensive system was slowly implemented due to Cryuff when he first came as a player to Barcelona. So it happened way before Van Gaal managed Barcelona.

Firstly, Henderson was bought for 12 + add ons.
Also. He is arguably the greatest talent in Britain right now that would fit the pass and move aka Kenny's style of play. He's been used as a utility player thus far for us playing RM, CAM, CM and CDM. He used to play mostly RM for Sunderland but would play he occasional CM role.
He's been moved to CDM ever since Leiva had the injury. :\
Actually it as way more than 12 million. It was at least 15 with add-ons then there was also the sizeable amount he was personally paid from Liverpool as a signing on fee.
He never played behind the strikers as his shooting ability isn't all that. Hes not really a central defender either, he cant tackle.
What Hendo was good at was picking the ball up in midfield and moving out out wide on the wing, putting crosses into the box. He had a good partnership with Elmo & Nedum overlapping and switching positions. Hes a hard player to define as to what position he plays and what he actually does.
If you look at the stats from last season there was only a couple of players who created more goal scoring opportunities than Hendo. Thats all Hendo did for us create chances. If you look at his highlights on youtube etc, you will see the crosses he put in for Gyan.
You have to play to his strengths and abilities though, need the team set up to suit him. At sunderland we could do that. At a team like Liverpool though players have to fit into the team.
I think in Hendo, Downing & Adam liverpool invested in some nice players individually. To me though im not convinced the all fit in the same team and play well together. But then again it might be how Kenny sets them up and personally I dont think he tactically a very good manager.
Carrol was a waste of money though, over hyped and over priced.
But Downing was bought as a goal scoring attacking midfielder, to have 0 assists and 0 goals after he has taken part in pretty much every game that has to be disappointing.

Yes but the difference is he has shown far more promise in a central role than he has as a right-sided midfielder as the latter position is one that is to limited and lacks dimension to fit into Kenny's dynamic system.
He has shown great distribution, intelligence, vision, and overall a very acute sense of positioning along with accuracy in his intentions whether it is to pass or to shoot.
Every Liverpool fan is happy with him so far and optimistic on how he can develop for us.
Yes, every now and then he plays on the right but this was similar to Gerrard early in his career as both these players are ones who will and did go central which is actually their natural position.
Hendo for us in the future will be our CAM with the option of also playing CM.
Downing, Adam and Hendo are finally combining after all being new to Kenny's system and playing with each other for their first season. Take a look at the Villa game yesterday. Downing has been underwhelming only due to his hefty price tag but as otherwise has done well for us and has found a new spot in the right side of winging rather than the left.
Carroll never was overHYPED but was spent from the money we got from Torres and is only short on confidence. Aside from his lack of goals, he has performed well in all other areas and we aren't worried of what he is capable of but only his current form.
As for Kenny not being very good in tactical sense, do watch his first managerial stint in Pool along with Blackburn. Then you'll see what a marvel he is in that area.
I don't even have to mention his tactical adeptness against City last year, this year, United, Chelsea and other games.
