Deluded Rodwell ?
Rodwell insisted that the squad were less obsessed with who possessed the armband. “Whoever the manager picks will do a good job,’’ Rodwell said.
“We will support whoever it is.” The Everton midfielder added that opposing nations were “fearful” of the sort of resilience that England showed in recovering to draw with Spain.
“We’ve shown when our backs are against the wall we’ll come out fighting,’’ Rodwell said. “We’ll always do that; that goes through all English teams, club level as well.’’
Rodwell disputed the notion that the English were vastly inferior to the Spanish.
“We have technical ability throughout the Under-21 squad. And look at our senior side, there are some of the best players in the world.
"If Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney were in the Barcelona squad I’m sure all of them would start.’’
England will expect to defeat Ukraine, particularly as their star turn, Taras Stepanenko, is out with a thigh problem.
Rodwell believes that the camaraderie amongst Pearce’s players eclipses the upbeat mood amongst those who reached the finals in 2009.
“The team spirit is better here,’’ Rodwell said. “I think we could definitely go all the way.”

Just a shame he forget about Gareth Barry .

Re: Deluded Rodwell ?
Frank and Steven probably wouldn't be starts but Terry and Rio could certainly give Pique a run for his money.
I'd take Rooney over Pedro too.
Just my opinion.

I am sure he is better than Pedro as wide forward . He is great SS but as a wing/wide forward I would take Pedro over Rooney .

Re: Deluded Rodwell ?
if Rooney were in the squad i think he would play centrally and Messi would be on the right...probably a lot of interchanging as well that is a lot of what Barca do constant switching....and Rooney has been very effective out wide on the left for England and United before

None of them would go in, Rooney is a beast in the #10 position, which they don't use.
I am not fond of Rooney on the left, he lose too much impact on the game that way.

Re: Deluded Rodwell ?
lol Barcelona players even say Rooney could play for them...he is better then Pedro, even if its not his natural position, he is a world class passer and finisher, he's the only english player that could fit that squad he is extremely versatile, can play both wings, lone striker, just behind the striker, even CM im not saying he can play all those for Barcelona but he is more then capable of playing any of those positions in any starting 11 in the world and being better then what they currently have

Fully fit Ferdinand would start over Pique, the others would just sit on the bench and drink coffee

Very nice way of paying respect to players he looks up to IMO.
And if you kids remembered any football from beyond one year radius, you would remember all of those players were beasts and some still are.

Actually it's quite hard to say. Don't think Gerrard will fit in Barca's formation/playing style.

All of them are great players but frankly Rooney is the only one who'd have a chance to be a regular starter.

Rio can probably edge Pique. But him and Terry will not be above Puyol. Rooney? Another inconsistent season like this, and he ll be written off from the list of world class players. Gerrard and Lampard? 5 years ago might ve

Lampard and Gerrard in their prime wouldn't have. Barca's Midfield is just too good.

Re: Deluded Rodwell ?
What makes people think Ferdinand would edge Pique?
If this were a direct player comparison I could see why some people would choose Ferdinand over him, but keep in mind that he'd be playing in our system alongside Puyol.
The connection between Pique and Puyol is almost telepathic and they compliment each other perfectly. If player A is better than player B it doesn't mean that he'd necessarily start over player B. You have to take their style, connection with teammates, familiarity of the system etc. into consideration.

That's not the point. This guy who made the thread makes it look like Barca player are miles better...
Both of Rio and Terry were considered worlds best CB's at one point, and they deserved it..
Here's some Lampard stats
04/05 - 19 goals 16 assists
05/06 - 20 goals 9 assists
06/07 - 21 goals 15 assists
07/08 - 20 goals 11 assists
08/09 - 20 goals 19 assists
09/10 - 27 goals 20 assists
10/11 - 13 goals 6 assists
This is a massively overlooked midfielder,Xaviesta toghether don't have stats this good.Just look at that consistency...
Here's some Gerrard...
04/05 - 13 goals 5 assists
05/06 - 22 goals 11 assists
06/07 - 14 goals 10 assists
07/08 - 14 goals 10 assists
08/09 - 29 goals 13 assists
09/10 - 13 goals 12 assists
10/11 - 10 goals 7 assists
I'm not taking anything from Barcelona, but players Rodwell mentioned are right up there with them.

Neither Lampard or Gerrard would replace Xavi or Iniesta. Once again their connection plays a big part here.
Btw Xavi's and Iniesta's performances can't be measured by goals and assists. Show up some passing stats instead

Most people here are forgetting what xavi was like before guardiola. He was good but he wasn't amazing, Guardiola came and xavi became the best. He never used to try and distribut e the ball as well as he does now. iFE HE CAN CHANGE HIS GAME, I BELIEVE LAMPARD CAN AS WELL. trHE ONLY PRBLEM IS DOES LAMPARD HAVE THE AWARENESS? I still holedthat Guardiola is 60% of barca success.

Ferdidnand could definately replace pique. Ferdinand was more composed, again it's down to Guardiolas coaching. Hargreaves could have replaced busquets.
