Lakers lost to Sactown...Thornton lighting people up.
Sorry to say it, its not easy to say, but I dont think the Lakers have any chance of winning a title with Kobe being by far its best player. He can be 1a to say Dwights 1b or something like that, but he cant be 81 point Kobe. Guys just crowd him so much now and force fadeaways knowing he doesnt quite have the quickness to get around them anymore.
He is still very smart and hugely skilled, his footwork alone will get him past people. But he cant consistently do it, cant explode at the rim without clear seperation. So, the defence of get someone his size with good athletic ability, force him to crowd him and he wont have it all his own way like he used to. Its tough to say bcause he has been the best player in the league for years and I think people were far too quick to try and take the crown for him but simply put I am convinced he needs more help than he is going to get from the group. They will still compete, but win, I dont see.
The Mavs have great depth, Roddy B, Carter, Odom and Terry all coming off the bench. West brings the defence they lost from Stevenson and I would give West that exact role minutes wise. But yeah, its early and dont want to go OTT but maybe a little less depth and more rim protection was smarter. I understand, we already spoke about setting up for next year but still. Odom cant be traded again this season? If they can, shipping him out for a center who can block some shots would be ideal.
I love Odom, but he is a emotional guy. He found his place in LA and now he has been cast off it has hurt his feeling and its effecting his play. He doesnt know his role anymore and you could see from when he entered the game vs Miami he was far too anxious to makes plays and rushed his shots. Tonight he didnt do any better.
Intrested in seeing Rubio, boy can he pass. He is quite tall with so so quickness, I am not surprised to see Westbrook going by him. His strength defensively I think will be in the passing lanes and getting steals will pressuring slow points gaurds with his length.

A little bit about my Rockets. I know noone cares but still lol
Anyways, losing to a downtrodden Magic team isnt exactly a great start. Martin bricking shots, open shots...poor game from him.
Dalembert did very well off the bench, 5-6 shooting and blocking shots. Considering he hasnt even practiced, he did very well.
Scola was his usual great self, wasnt as efficent as usual but all around his old self.
But special praise to Lowry, who was 3 points off leading BOTH teams in points rebounds and assists. For a 6 foot nothing point gaurd, thats impressive.
Overall, the team is more or less how I expected and I see another year of medicority unless changes are made.

The Lakers lost yesterday not because Kobe had an average day and had to play through an injury but its because Gasol was being a pussy and got dominated by Cousins .... Fisher , I have no idea why is this guy still in the league he was flat-out horrible .... World Peace was the best player yesterday .... and why the f*ck are the lakers the only team to start with 3 games in 3 days against 3 good teams !? blasphemy ....
We'll start winning games when we get Drew back and get that inside presence wich I hope will help Gasol , but yeah I agree we wont be winning anything with Fisher at PG ... I'd already turn the dice and try out Arenas to run the PG spot , at least I could hope for something , with Fisher there is no room to hope .

Dont think Arenas is the answer either, no intrest in defending and isnt a passer. He is basically an undersized shootinggaurd.
Need help at the point, no question, but Arenas isnt the answer imo.
Agree about Gasol, I have already said that Odom was the 2nd best Laker player the whole of last season, above Gasol.
Gasol is fine with the ball in his hands, but he gets pushed too far from the rim, isnt aggressive when entry passes are given to him and defensively soft as tissue.

Arenas? lol No way.
I already said ......our options disappeared really quickly......JR Smith and Wilson Chanler would've been amazing pickups.
I still think we could've used LO in a trade for a guy like Iguodala or Josh Smith...maybe even a straight swap.
Gasol needs to be Gasol dude....he needs to be the Gasol that shoved KG out of the post and schooled Howard at one point in time.Right now he is frustrating as hell.
I don't think this is our roster......we have a year to use the TPE...........

Well at least Arenas could score ..... Blake and Fisher are a disaster .... can't pass , can't defend , can't score anymore ....We didnt frikin use Sasha's TPE that expired .... and we dumped Odom to save salary ? after getting our cp3 trade screwed ?.... if the Lakers dont make a trade until February .... We have to TANK and get a high-pick in that stacked draft and make Orlando do that Gasol-Bynum for Dwight out of desperation .

Rich people crying about nothing you Laker fans lol
Your 3 best players is the Black Mamba, Pau and Bynum...ours are Scola, Lowry and Martin...quit your whining lol
(Though right now Scola > Gasol)
But yeah, seriously, I dont believe Mitch will stand pat. I think he will see how they play, see what deals are out there and then go for it if its reasonable.
I think we all know guys like Arenas are better than Fisher and Blake, but getting Arenas wont make you a winner in the bigger picture because of the make up of the roster. Whatever moves they make, they shouldnt be out of desperation because Lakers arent anywhere near that bad.

I'm not whining ... I'm just looking at things realistycaly ... our bench is full of scrubs and is old as hell , apart from Goudelock and Morris . Gasol is playing like a pussy ... Kobe just injured his hand and can't use it properly ...and what if Bynum gets injured again ? I was saying that Orlando would make that move out of desperation perhaps if they wont get any other good offers ...

Heat/Celtics tonight. If the C's lose, which is likely, Dallas, Boston and LA would've all started 0-2(although LA will probably be 1-2 by the end of the night).
And then that play where he pump faked a 3, got Reke in the air, and STILL got his shot blocked It's embarrassing at this point for Derek Fisher.

Was watching Boston+Miami but the C were getting their shots blocked so often and easily, turning it over and looking old so Heat were running away with it and its wasnt much of a game. I turned it over, I cant afford to stay up late to watch non competitive games.
Went and watched TWolves, I thought they might improve this year. They have lost both games but no doubt they are better. Rubio is a very nice player, I can see him having a Ginobli like impact in the NBA, hes that talented. I can see him getting a few triple doubles in his career too. Love is a beast, he didnt shot well, but his rebounding is amazing, he is the best in the NBA for me. Great outlet passer and has some moves to go with normally good spot up shooting.
Lakers got their win, I didnt watch it all though. What I did see and the box score seems to suggest the same is that they defended at a high level. Holding Jazz to 30 something % shooting and hardly anyone getting double digits scoring. Intresting player is the young Jazz center Kanter, he didnt make shots (1-7) but nobody did for them, what was impressive though was his board work. 11 of them in just 20 minutes of daylight.

If anyone caught the Laker Games......I forgot that Artest used to be a very good offensive player and not just a guy who stands out at the 3 pt like and misses. He's good......nice inside presence.

I was just about to come back and say this. Artest is looking good off the bench, scoring points and making players. When you involve him in the offence he can be good, as a Rockets fan I know this.
I thought he might be finished as a player, but he still got something to give for sure.

Brown did a good job on Artest ... he matured and he doesnt take 3's all the way ... he has accepted his role of coming off the bench and leading the 2nd unit . He's surprisingly good near the rim ...

He made 1 or 2 decent J's last night. He's actually a great practice shooter but he's one of those guys where it never translates to games for him. I don't know if you saw All-Star Weekend a couple years ago where they had a game of HORSE between Rondo and Durant. Rondo hung right with him for a while before Durant won, it was seriously impressive.

The Wolves beat themselves quite a bit.I hope they make the playoffs...they remind me of the thunder a couple years back.
Agree on Rubio although I think he can be better than Ginobli.....(bias), one point on him outside the passing and court vision..........he may not be an amazing defender right now....but he's quite big and isn't slow so if he simply learns to play proper defense he could be a pretty great defender...not unlike Chauncey or J kidd.
Yea Love is the best rebounder in the NBA....but not a great defender....although he does strike to do the fundamentals right. He lacks ,height, and both lateral and hand quckness.

I shudder at the thought of Rondo being able to consistently knock down 3 pointers at the top of the key or even a step back.
Because teams have no time to guard him there with Allen running you silly off screens Pierce KG etc.
That could be the difference between a championship and a first round exit for you guys really.

Rubio is probably the only player I am excited to watch

He does alot of bounce pass, but who cares as long it reaches the intended receiver.
His defence against Westbrook was pretty decent, don't know what everyone is complaining about. Rubio isn't exactly the athletic type, he doesn't have fast speed (Cp3) or strong pg (deron). However what makes him so unique is insane vision and passing ability. He is a true point guard, a pass first point guard.

Rubio defensively I dont think will ever be great, he just doesnt have the type of athletic ability for it. His length would give slow point gaurds problems, but his best defence is his instincts.
So I expect deflections and steals, turning into fast breaks.
