Re: Internationals: Germany, Argentine, Spain, France, Portugal
France goes for result first and style second. That's just the way it is. 16 straight games without a loss proves that his formula works. Very italian frankly.
Playing 2 DMs side by side with no AM was going to be tough in any situation. Cabaye and Nasri were hurt for this one and there were no options other than Martin and Blanc didn't want to play a 4-3-3. Experimented with benz as a SS... but that didn't work without a AM. Also gave a shot to Kos, Debuchy and Mathieu. Basically, a friendly.
You'll see Cabaye, Abidal, Sakho, Reveillere and Remy start against Belgium on Tuesday instead of Debuchy, Mathieu, Koscielny, Menez and Diarra. That'll be closer to our usual starting 11.

Then I'll give him a chance to redeem himself on Tuesday Belgium got owned by Germany two times in the qualifiers. I expect France to beat themsportsczy wrote:France goes for result first and style second. That's just the way it is. 16 straight games without a loss proves that his formula works. Re: Internationals: Germany, Argentine, Spain, France, Portugal
We never own anyone unfortunately. Just play solid defense and then count on a moment or two of brilliance up front. That's the method. We just don't have the creative midfielders to play possession at all... Cabaye could be the one to help. I'm hoping wither Martin or Nasri really develop this year. Right now, It's like Madrid playing with a Lass-Alonso midfield, except we don't have anyone as good as Alonso.
We'll have to see.

Varane has been good today so far. But mangala, who plays for Porto, has been the better cb for France u21 since the start of this campaign and again tonight.

Varane just scored a smashing header!!!

Re: Internationals: Germany, Argentine, Spain, France, Portugal
Varane is dominating now. He's playing flawless defense. Only thing mangala has on him is that he's very good at bringing the ball to the attack. Varane needs to get more aggressive there.... Will come with experience. But Varane is a defensive genius. So clean.

Re: Internationals: Germany, Argentine, Spain, France, Portugal
Different styles. Both equally as effective. Mangala is a very physical and aggressive defender... He intimidates. Varane is smooth as silk.

To answer your question, I think they are both equal in terms of speed and agility. Mangala is just stronger.

Very good. He tries to hammer it.

Re: Internationals: Germany, Argentine, Spain, France, Portugal
Mangala has won a starting CB position at Porto over the past month... a lot of good performances. So he's likely going to progress faster since he's playing regularly now. Going to watch Porto's remaining CL games to see how he's doing.

Re: Internationals: Germany, Argentine, Spain, France, Portugal
M'Vila is 21 and is nowhere near a finished product Z. The point is that he's the youngest of all the top midfielders by 2-3 years at least. That does a couple of things for us: 1) He has 2 years to compete and doesn't need to be the undisputed starter immediately and 2) he has a very high ceiling.
Today, he's not one of the best midfielders other than the defensive portion where he is absolutely fantastic. But he's smart, has a great work ethic and is showing continued progress with rounding out his game.
That's the exciting part... he has the mental and physical makeup to be great.
