Re: Who is the best Italian player right now?
GK: Gianluigi Buffon
DEF: Giorgio Chiellini
MID: Daniele De Rossi
Attack: Giuseppe Rossi
For me anyways. Though there are a lot of guys who will challenge eventually; Sirigu is only 23 and is worldclass, Ranocchia is looking shaky but he'll improve, Nocerino is playing well for the Azzurri, and up front maybe our most reputable guys coming through such as Mario Balotelli, Federico Macheda, Fabio Borini, on top of Giuseppe Rossi and already established guys like Fabio Quagliarella, Alberto Gilardino, Alessandro Matri.
I think what Italy has is a mix between experienced guys and younger guys and this will make us stronger becuase when the time comes that a new generation takes over, they will already be experienced, and when they are handed down the proverbial torch, they will have already known what to do with it.
FORZA ITALIA !

Happens. Happened to us (Germany) in the 90s up to basically 2009.
Happened to England in the 1920s and hasn't stopped yet.

People in this thread are making an inaccurate correlation between lack of superstars and poor team. The two aren't always related...
I expect big things from Italy at Euros
Don't expect them to win, but expect them to make serious moves

True. Also being a "superstar" is mostly about reputation, not performance. Players at mid-table teams in their domestic leagues can play their hearts out and people will still call them "talents", unless they impress at the WC.
Case and point all German players before the 2010 WC :p

Di Natale.
Pirlo.
Nesta.
Abbiati.
Cassano would be the best if he stops acting up.
Rossi will be the best

Why isn't anyone mentioning di natale. Imo, he's the most talented italian player atm. He's also won the capoconierre consecutively

Sorry forgot to quote you.
I did pick Di Natale. He is a scoring machine. But he needs to stay at Udinese.

You're kidding, right ? Abbiati isn't even a top five Italian goalkeeper.

All I agree with is Di Natale.
Pirlo was injured most of the season and hardly played, how does that make him the best?
Nesta? Sure good season, he wasn't the best CB tho...
Abbiatti, sure one of the best this season, surely not a top goalkeeper tho... to claim he's the best.

Re: Who is the best Italian player right now?
And of course I get a negative for speaking the truth. Abbiati was good this season, but he's 33 years old and if you think he's one of Italy's best, you do not watch Calcio. There is a reason why he was never called up to Italy's squad, and there is a reason why he never will be...because Buffon, Viviano, De Sanctis, Sirigu, and even Storari at times are better than Abbiati.
Sorry. Hard truth...now please give me negativity.
Nesta is aged, though he was definately one of the best Italian defenders at some point in his career, but unforunately he is injury-proned as most older players tend to be. Same goes with Pirlo, though I have to admit Italy does not have someone as creatively-gifted as him. Cassano may be somewhat of a viable option to replace Pirlo with, but even he doesn't have that technical gift I don't think.
