This wouldn't be a bad idea. Or if not an official award then at least some recognition of some sort but with the the ballon d'or still the most important one of all.

I thimk defenders get ignored in the Ballon D'or because they are not as economically valuable as offensive player. Which is why Xavi did not and will not win it. If he scores a lot of screamers as well as being awesome, he would have won it last year.

It was a combination of the Fifa Ballon d'or award though.

Xavi is the closest man he even was second in europe player of year list. another players i think none of them became second in ball dor list. so none of them deserve it. Make at least top-3 then we can discuss you deserved to win it or not

I prefer to think of it from the angle of who was "robbed". Xavi and Iniesta don't qualify because clearly Messi was the most important piece to Barca's success.

Pirlo, yes. Way more instrumental than Cannavaro to Italy's success.

Maldini, yes. For the sheer reason that if Cannavaro as a defender can win it, then surely there was at least one year where Maldini could have been considered as well.


The most glaringly obvious though, Riquelme. With such a high opinion of himself, how could they not give him a Ballon d'or Quite clearly Villareal died after he left

I think Seedorf deserves a shout as well.Its a pity that he wasnt even in the Top 3 not even once in his career.

I dont like when Midfielders and Defenders hardly ever get recognition.

im surprised by how little Maldini and Eto'o are mentioned in this thread

Zanetti deserves a shout, and I agree with Batistuta, but his best days were in highly ignore Fiorentina.
