Re: Andy Carroll
You're right. It's really not hoofball. It is just a more direct, aerial game than Liverpool were ever likely to play under Brendan Rodgers.Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:They are not even hoofing ffs
Well there's the long ball now and again to mix it up but mainly they are passing through midfield and then getting it outwide and putting quality delivery in.
This isn't hoofing
GL on hoofing: A pass that is longer than 5 yards.
I'm still a big fan of Carroll as a player. However, he only fits in certain circumstances. He has to have the right type of players around him, and he needs to be the focus of the attack. At West Ham, he's got that. West Ham look to be building their team around him at the top. They've shuffled the lineup a bit and changed the formation to get the most out of him. No offense Mole, but today they look more than a little like Newcastle the season after they came back up. It's no coincidence that it's the setup/style in which Carroll flourished.

Always amazed me how overrated slow defenders that are very good in the air are.
Never rated Hangeland or Samba etc etc.

To be fair West Ham are fielding one similarly shocking tall defender in James Collins.
But feels good to see Big Andy Carroll starting off well for the Hammers!

I'm real happy for Andy. He's having a great game. I'm a little sorry we couldn't use him to his full potential, but it was never really going to fit.

Re: Andy Carroll
And LFC didn't replace him with no one? You lot are gonna be f***** if Saurez (who is not even prolific) get's injured.
Should have went all out to get Dempsey. He's not a striker, but he would have added some much needed goals for Liverpool.

I sortta agree that we gonne be bleeped if Suarez gets injured, but even as much as I like Carroll, Suarez is still a class above him and we would have been in difficulties if Suarez injured even with Carroll in the team. But at least we're not alone with this situation; see: Torres, Cisse, Adebayor.

Well said Art.
The truth is we would we be screwed even if we still had Carroll. I like the big man, and I wish him the best. However, he isn't suited to the CF role in Rodgers system. For things to work well, we need a CF who is mobile, can press the defense when they have possession, and can interchange with the other forwards. Carroll has his strengths, but those things I mentioned are not among them. While we would be able to say we were starting a "CF", another player might actually be more effective.

+1.
Needed a plan b somewhat. Arsenal would have found it tough to deal with a big centre forward like Carroll pesting them towards the end of the match.
It ended up being very comfortable for Arsenal today. They dealt with every LFC attack.
