he has managed countless goals for clubs, guided one to the Champions League and as much as you hate to admit it
he is freakishly consistent

I dont know in which area he declined lol,dribbling? he was never been exceptional at it.

SAF made him to suit his counter attacking style and he was a very one dimensional player when he joined us too.

Jib already summed this one up for me.

He was never that good as a dribbler, he just thrived on PL defenders who dived in on him and he could escape. Whenever someone stood up to him or had him beat for quickness and speed (like Cole) then they owned him.

Just like now, Dani Alves is just as quick and is as tencious a defender as there is, so he cant just blow by him.

In La Liga, I think defenders are more fearful, less confident in their own physical attributes (and rightly so) compared to PL defenders and therefore dont want to dive in as much.

I do think though he lacks the discipline he had at Utd, where it really seemed like SAF had a degree of control over him which nobody at Madrid has. I think his failures and flaws are more acceptable at Madrid, whereas at Utd he was challanged to do and be better.

Yeah, I would agree with that. Either way, whatevr the reasons, I think its good (and better) defending than diving into tackles and committing yourself.

Still, look at the fullbacks in PL..guys like Richards, Johnson, Sagna, Clichy, Evra, Cole and even more average guys like Bosingwa, Traore, Walker, Essou Ekotto, Hutton...far better athletes than La Liga fullbacks. Only Ramos (when he played there), Abidal, Dani Alves, Marcelo and a couple others are on that level athletically.

Exactly there is a reason why he is so effective on the counter attacks he uses his speed to the greatest effect.

In La Liga defenders know not to dive in and stay off of him and comparing his dribbling to his days at United there is quite a difference. Mostly the reason why he struggles against teams that park the bus.

He is built for the premier league and used that space he got.

It started while he was at man utd. The season when he scored 42 he had sacrificed his all around game to become a better goal scorer..

He still has the same close control and first touch etc guys. Jibers said it perfectly. La liga defenders are smaller and much faster, and also have much better reactions. You can't just outpace them.

IMHO, yes he is an all around worse player, but he doesn't play in a role that requires him to be a good all around player so it doesn't really matter most of the time when he scoring braces every game. What has changed though from Man U to Real Madrid is the massive improvement in service.

Didnt you see his last season at M.U? 26 goals in 53 games. This is a shame really shame for a player who scores 53 goals in 54 games in r.madrid

Billion might be falling under the illusion that the only medium for measuring a players form is by how many goals they kick per season

so that means... Silva sucks, Vidic sucks, Abidal sucks and Neuer sucks more than any of them

We are not talking about players we are talking about c.ronaldo. Show me any person that doesnt measure ronaldo by goals

25 goals already this season.
Plus, he's far less selfish. He's contributing to build up play (his assist tally doesn't tell the full story).
He even shows up in defense.
He is actually a better all round player compared to the guy that arrived in Madrid in 2009...
