Liverpool vs Spurs Match thread.
Kick off time : 1.30 PM BST
Stadium : White Hart lane
Most likely line up:
Reina
Kelly Carragher Agger Enrique
Adam Lucas
Kuyt/ Henderson Suarez Downing
Carroll / Kuyt
Injury concerns:
Liverpool :
Certain : Gerrard , Johnson
Doubtful : Kelly
Spurs :
Certain : Dawson , Gallas , Sandro , Piennar
Doubtful : VDV , Lennon ,
Form Guide in PL:
Liverpool : LWWDL | | Spurs : WLLWP
Past 5 League meetings:
Liverpool 0 vs Tottenham 2 (15.05.2011)
Tottenham 2 vs Liverpool 1 (29.11.2010)
Liverpool 2 vs Tottenham 0 (21.01.2010)
Tottenham 2 vs Liverpool 1 (16.08.2009)
Liverpool 3 vs Tottenham 1 (24.05.2009)
I feel most are under rating Spurs(mainly in General Section) but i think they are still a very good team so i would be happy with a draw.
We have lost our last four games at WHL.So hopefully we can buck the trend and come away with a win like we did at Emirates.

VDV will play ..
"I still think it's a peculiar situation.
"Anyway, it's up to the point of no return. I will be focusing on the game against Liverpool.
"I'm pretty convinced I will be fit by then.

Yeah, VDV is fit.
I'd start Skrtel Agger as CBs.
I can't shake off this feeling that Tottenham will win

Massive Massive game
Win this, and we'd have a fantastic start to the season
Lose this, and our start to the season has been disappointing

Re: Liverpool vs Spurs Match thread.
This is a very important match. Both teams are in need of a win this weekend. Tottenham is going to be hungry for a win at home at White Hart Lane. After their shaky start to the season, they're going to give Liverpool everything they can handle in an attempt to repeat the double they did over LFC last year. However, this is a vastly different Liverpool squad from last year, and coming off a dominant performance in a loss against Stoke City last weekend, this squad will be looking to make a statement.
Personally, I want to see Andy Carroll start up top in either a front three of
Downing - Carroll - Suarez
or
Carroll
Downing - Suarez - Kuyt (preferably)/Hendo
I believe the consistent threat of Carroll in the box could open up opportunities for Suarez and downing to make runs and get into space in the attacking third. With Gerrard out, Suarez can perform that second striker/CAM role with aplomb.
No matter how LFC lines up this weekend, I think we can expect a very entertaining, if difficult, match. I believe this team is more than capable of coming away from WHL with a win, but I would be satisfied with a draw, as I believe Tottenham will react like a wounded animal after their less-than-stellar start to the season. I don't think this is the time to go in and park the bus as we did against Chelsea last January. Let's take the fight to them and try for the full three points.

Re: Liverpool vs Spurs Match thread.
Even i don't see a victory here. But im hoping for one..
Second test for our Squad.. First one we kinda did ok agst Stoke. [60/100]
This is how the defense line up on Sunday 99%
---Skrtel[RB] ----Carra----Agger----My sig-----
Carra will be able to deal with the pace of Defoe?
Hmmmmm

Re: Liverpool vs Spurs Match thread.
Skrtel played well vs Stoke, but he should have supported attack more.
against Spurs, we need a defensive RB, because if we leave space behind, even Forrest Gump can't catch Gareth Messi.
I am really hoping for this:
Reina
Skrtel
Carra
Agger
Enrique
Lucas
Adam
Bellamy
Suarez
Downing
Carroll
Bench:
Doni
Kelly
Coates
Gerrard
Henderson
Maxi
Kuyt

Re: Liverpool vs Spurs Match thread.
I'm seeing quite a lot of pessimism here despite our new, reformed and Dalglishified Liverpool.
But its understandable as our recent form to Spurs has been atrocious.
Every big team has this kind of kryptonite team.
e.g Milan has Palermo from mid-table and bologna from the lower table.
Ours is Tottenham and Wigan.
I predict a win.
Tomorrow will be our night.

Re: Liverpool vs Spurs Match thread.
So its
Skrtel vs Bale
Carroll vs King
Enrique vs Lennon.
Lucas vs VDV
Carra vs Defoe's pace.
PFK failed against Lennon last year.
If we win at least 2 out of these battles i see a point coming to us.
Skrtel vs Bale
Carroll vs King
Enrique vs Lennon.
Lucas vs VDV
Carra vs Defoe's pace.
PFK failed against Lennon last year.

Nish, I feel you may be looking at things to much from an on paper perspective.
Skrtel? Won't it be Kelly? If he is injured it will be Flanno. This I am sure of. Yet, I may be wrong as if Skrtel is the RB, he may not produce the bombing runs of Johnson or the fullback movement of Kelly in the back but we have seen many times Skrtel can hold his own in that position as will be in a withdrawn role while I suspect JE on the left will have to attack more to compensate.
But Bale definitely will test him.
Carroll? I personally don't think he will start but if he does, he will be against King who is severely short of match fitness and will most definitely be rusty. Plus, Carroll made a mug of king last year.
JE vs Lennon? Well he was against PFK as PFK can make Iain Dowie look like Baggio.
Plus, Lennon didn't really do much that game aside from his last minute goal. JE will comfortably hold him off.
VDV? He is also coming off from an injury as Lucas will give him quite a difficult time.
Defoe? I can't remember the last relevant thing Defoe did anyway as I feel Carra is getting to much stick based on his concentration lapse against Bolton and that penalty against Stoke which simply was not a penalty.
He will have to be backed up well by Agger to hold off incoming pace though.
And won't adebayor play?
Lets hope for the best.

Re: Liverpool vs Spurs Match thread.
Lennon is injured, and a doubt. I have a feeling VDV will start as RW, and Defoe and Ade up to.
MASSIVE MASSIVE GAME, especially now that ARSENAL LOST (gives us breathing space)
if we win, we'll be 6-7 points ahead of both Spurs/Arsenal, having played BOTH of them away from home and also Stoke away...man, it'd be an awesome start to the season
COME ON YOU REDS !!!

Re: Liverpool vs Spurs Match thread.
Probably because he's very young, has only just arrived in the country a few weeks ago and therefore had very little time to settle into his new home, new team, and new training regime. Also, Carragher, Skrtel, and Agger are all better and more reliable until proven otherwise.Messiakanino wrote:Man i have to wake up *bleep* early for this game.....

Re: Liverpool vs Spurs Match thread.
Well that certainly was a terrible half of football by us.. Credit to Spurs, though.
Don't know what Adam was thinking, playing so recklessly after being booked already.. And Agger... *sigh*

We haven't looked good, and we have certainly had our share of reckless challenges. That said, the amount of cards has been ridiculous. We'll be lucky to get out of WHL without conceding more.
(Of course, as I was typing, Defoe scores again. )

Not even worth talking about, honestly, worse then united, city chelsea, spurs, and prob arsenal. It's not even kneejerk. Carroll meh, henderson meh, adam meh.

Re: Liverpool vs Spurs Match thread.
Adam is so bad defensively it's not even funny....At center mid he's slower than Carragher ffs.....And his reaction is piss poor....good squad players nothing more.....is never going to be WC, hopefully just a temporary buy to take us to CL
Henderson is still too young.....I dont see world class potential in him to be honest. Just another above average player. Good squad player, not Liverpool starting quality.
Carroll hasn't done anything note worthy to justify the price tags....His ball control and dribbling is piss poor...He needs to improve. Even 50/50 headers, we either get a foul called against us or he loses them. Hopefully he improves, from what we've seen nothing special.
Enrique.....at time he's selfish but i love this guy.....had a bad game, but he's definitely one of the best LB's in EPL.
Downing, along with Enrique, one of our better purchases.....Deserves to start for us, has all the abilities to succeed. Bad game, but not his fault, playing with 9 man isn't easy.
Coates.....showed great signs....still very young, but definitely has WC potential. Improvements will show with experience.
Everyone was poor today tbh.....Skrtel at RB is a fail...We have 3 good Rb's, ffs Kenny just play one of them......Game plan just got ruined because of the red cards but oh well.....We should be better from here on.
