:lol!:
Really though, it's hard to tell whether it's a strategy by him to try and put the spotlight on him and not the players.

I also think so, for instance if the spotlight was on the players, say Ronaldo, 1-2 bad performances and there will be pressure from the fans, media and the staff.
But this way the bad performances blame would be on Jose and the players are likely to bounce back faster and sooner.

As much as i dislike the man, mourinho does this better than any other coach in professional sports (including NFL, NBA, and MLB), and this has to be respected. love him or hate him, the man knows how to protect his players.StrugaRock wrote:Lionel Messi wrote: :lol!:

Are Mourinho and Sneijder ... more than friends? They've been gushing about each other publically for the last year or so.

Mou should be ashamed... and so should Villanova for retaliating in kind. Plenty of people on both sides that acted badly during that whole incident.

These kind of tactics were working until Pep Guardiola came along and outfoxed the master himself. Guardiola has been destroying Mourinho for the past year or so, and there's nothing Mourinho can do except express his frustration by poking someone's eye.
It may appear as if he's acting as a decoy to his players, but he's just a frustrated man by now, after all these defeats...with more imminent.

LOL I have noticed this too. They should get off eachother's dicks.

They have a very close relationship (cue gay joke). Wesley loved Jose's leadership, mentorship and the fact he was so close with the players and hanged around with them on the plane and on the dressing room, when Jose gave Wesley vacations in the most intense part of the season Wesley said he would "bleed" for him.
Jose loves all his loyal players and Wesley is a particular WC talent which helped him seal one of the most amazing football campaigns ever. Jose shed a tear when Wesley told him onstage he was the best coach in the world for him.
Its not at all uncommon for former Mourinho players to have been felt touched when he was around. Drogba said he felt like he was orphaned when they tore Mou away from him and Mourinho in turn said he was like a son to him. Carvalho and him can barely get apart from each other, tons of players and directors everywhere have come and gushed when asked about Mourinho: Di Maria, Milito, Casillas, Oezil, Matrix, Cesar, Zanetti, Moratti, Cole, etc. Even his past players when bashing him are quick to point out he was indeed special such as Makelele and Eto'o.
So... It seems Jose keeps a very close relationship with his players, almost like family. Simon Kuper wrote about Wesley and Jose "it was a meeting of souls", and reportedly Wesley also has said "He could have been my father."
The special one indeed
