Forwards & Strikers Thread
We have Gk and defense thread so I thought maybe we should have this as well.
Mainly because Kuyt and Suarez just canceled each other's goals out in a 1:1 match between Uruguay and Netherlands.
Luis' side won on penalties to win the Copa Confraternidad
Good to see our forwards scoring for their NT.

What do you guys think Kuyt's role will be next season?
what percentage of league games can you see him starting ?

Re: Forwards & Strikers Thread
Hopefully with Carroll gaining fitness & most probably the fact that we are going to get two wingers in both RM & LM . .i believe Kuyt would most probably be coming in as a backup striker & that as a moderately good one because he has been pretty impressive in the second half of the season scoring goals at will . .
if Wickham comes in i believe he would make into the reserve & very little in the main team . .however if another serious striker comes in then things might get complicated but with wingers coming, kuyt can also be put in the team in the wings if the new ones are not fit or are injured . .
all in all i sort of see him in a sub role. .but i believe his total appearances won't be that horrible as he can pitch both as a striker & winger! but obviously he won't be as prominent a starter as he was this year . .

I think Kuyt will have 40 games as substitute & starter combined.
He can play on both wings, SS & main striker. His work-rate is amazing.

Re: Forwards & Strikers Thread
Yeah I see Kuyt playing major role coming off the bench to provide a spark. And injuries will surely occur (hopefully not too severe) so he'll get game time.

Re: Forwards & Strikers Thread
Kuyt should start at least 20 games, I would imagine. He'll probably still be a starter for the big matches due to his work rate and penchant for scoring important goals. Also, injuries are bound to happen and he'll likely be first in line as cover for Carroll and maybe Suarez.

I don't think people overrate him, more people over hype him because of the large price tag on his head.

Raheem Sterling is a gun, but like red said, he's a winger.
Does anyone see Sterling getting a few games in the first team next year? :bball:

He's only 16 so I doubt he'll get much game time....maybe a substitute appearance in the 89th minute in some easy game. We don't wanna rush youngsters and ruin them.

Re: Forwards & Strikers Thread
thought I'd put it out there.
Players need to check back in at Melwood on July 4th, but Carroll is doing extra training. He trained at Melwood yesterday.

Re: Forwards & Strikers Thread
I can see Daily Mail, the Sun and NOTW already preparing their headlines if Carroll misses a sitter or doesn't score a hattrick against Sunderland.
He is the most saught after person in English media atm...Mirror had an article that Andy's public image hasn't improved over summer since he was seen in Barbados with Rooney (so now chilling with Rooney is a sin?) and he was criticized by TWITTER CRITICS.
frakking hell......papers these days.
be strong Andy lad....kill all those c*nts

I don't know where to put wingers, so just put them with the forward thread?
Opinions on Maxi? I'd love him to stay 1 more season.

Re: Forwards & Strikers Thread
Steven Gerrard believes an attacking triumvirate of Dirk Kuyt, Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll will cause plenty of headaches for opposing Barclays Premier League defences this season.
The trio have rarely played together due to injuries but Manchester City felt the full force of their forward thrust when they were dispatched 3-0 at Anfield in April.
A Carroll brace and an expertly taken Kuyt strike secured the win that night, but it was Luis Suarez who took home the man-of-the-match accolade after a livewire performance.
Injuries restricted Gerrard to just three appearances alongside Suarez - and the skipper can't wait to link up with the Uruguayan in 2011-12.
He told LFC Weekly: "Luis is dynamite. He's been magic for us so far. If he can maintain his form I think we've got a star on our hands. He's so direct and has the desire and bottle to get into the box ahead of the defender. He must be a nightmare to mark.
"I'm itching to get out there alongside him because every time I watch him he excites me. He looks like he's going to create something, if not score.
"It's early days and we can't get too carried away by putting too much pressure on him but if he can keep producing those kind of performances, he will be a fantastic signing.
"When Andy (Carroll) is fit, the two of them could make a deadly partnership".
Since moving to Merseyside on January's transfer deadline day, Suarez has established himself as a fans' favourite on the Kop.
But it's not just his ability that has won over supporters, with the 24-year-old's desire and determination to win further endearing him to the Anfield faithful.
"You look at Zidane, Rooney - it's just the way they are," added Gerrard. "The players that don't have the edge lack something, that sparkle or fire in their belly.
"That's what makes Luis who he is. He's a fighter and despite having a lot of skill, he's a worker as well. That's what separates him from others."
Meanwhile, Gerrard is also keen to highlight Kuyt's contribution in 2010-11.
The Dutchman plundered 15 goals in all competitions, including scoring in five successive league games and netting a hat-trick against Manchester United.
"Sometimes his work goes unnoticed but we as players always appreciate the shifts he puts in," said Gerrard.
"Dirk and Luis particularly were very influential towards the end of last season - mainly because both players work unselfishly for the team. The pair of them don't give defenders a moment's rest.
"When you do see them working like that, it encourages the team to do the same - defending from the front."

Re: Forwards & Strikers Thread
Currently our options are:
1. Carroll
2. Suarez
3. Kuyt
4. Ngog
Ngog is transfer listed & Suarez will start on the right-side with a free role. That leaves only Kuyt as cover.
Suarez doesn't look like an out & out striker and moving him will mean the mid-field will miss all his creativity & live-ware actions.

Re: Forwards & Strikers Thread
I feel Kuyt is a brilliant cover . .but as i have mentioned a zillion time that we need some spark off the bench . .like you see all the big teams they have a third or forth striker who has the potential to come off the bench & change the game . .although Kuyt is 110% he lacks the creativitiy. .
Looking at
Chelsea there is Drogba/Torres, Anelka & Sturridge! ! :O
ManU there is Berbatov
ManCity i just cannot name all the striker they have . .the night would be over before i finish
so i do feel a more solid replacement won't be a bad option . .but then again its not a dieing necessity . .
