Why not add an "I don't want to rank them against each other - they were both great!"

lol mole. I just voted Laudrup, I'm sorry, I've seen both of them play pretty much week in week out over a number of years. Laudrup was a football genius. The man could spot an ant and give it the perfect pass 1000m away. Creativity, laudrup wins, finishing laudrup was more two footed, passing and vision, no flipping competiton, as football players, Laudrup has no equal tbh. Club level they had similar careers except Zidane was far better internationally, then again he was in a team of stars all the ime, in madrid and france. laudrup provided like 75% of all his strikers goals, he was also a better dribler, close control I'd give to zidane but getting through people, Messi and Ronaldinho are the only two people I can think of that beat him. Watching Laudrup play is the closest I've come to tears in while watching a football game.

Re: Zidane vs Laudrup
I think more people will choose Zidane purely because he only retired in 2006, so is the more familiar and popular name. Don't judge from the poll, judge by these good reasons like jibers has provided.

There is no reason in Jiber's post. just Laudrup was better at this and that. which is just his opinion.

Two of my fav players of all time.....I can't choose...Zidane and Laudrup were both magicians of the game....A third option was needed in the poll

I really don't want to use stats here but I will, Zidane and Laudrup were both attacking midfielders, they had similar goal tallies but Laudrup had far higher assists, Raul has played with both and said Laudrup was the best player he ever played with. clue? Mr real madrid said this. Zidanes reputation is solesy from his exploiuts with france as if you take a microscope and look at his club career, compared to that of other greats, it's pretty well, dissapointing. Laudrup was a better footballer. ZIdane is overhyped.

Re: Zidane vs Laudrup
Zidanes performances in spain, while great, was nowhere near the quality Laudrup showed in spain. Maybe thats the reason why they voted laudrup the best foreign player in spain for the last 25 years and not Zidane.
Zidane was the better player in Italy though. Laudrup was good there too, but was a very different player there and hadnt yet developed into the elegant playmaker he would at Barca, he was thought much more as a forward~ (more advanced, running at the defense ect ect) in italy and to be a player who scored more than he assisted, something that didnt really suit his style which Cruyff discovered and brought him to his dream team.
As far as national performances goes, Zidane was obviously better as Laudrup never really managed to show the same quality there, although the overall quality of the two national teams obviously had something to say here.
Their club careers are very even in terms of quality id say, most of the Zidane hype is based on his national team performances, which is also primarily what he won his awards from, where he was the best player in a very good team, if he hadnt had this great team around him its likely the hype would be lower and he probably wouldnt have won atleast 2 of the 3 WPTY awards. Had laudrup had a similar great national team (and actually bothered to take place in the 92 euro win) one can only guess if he could have achieved the same, but as far as club level performances goes you would have to be incredibly biased/ignorant/haven't watched them play to say Zidane was "clearly the superior player", its such a dumb comment it goes beyond comprehension really.

Re: Zidane vs Laudrup
Both were something else and I'm proud as a fan of Madrid to have them both amongst Real Madrid alumni.
I'd rather not choose but Zidane's career was better at Club and National level. Zidane made better career choices and as a result had a better career, anyone who has followed Laudrup will know that he had a habit of being too opinionated (Refusing to travel with Denmark for the Euros is probably the most famous one).
Zidane is one of the best ever for sure, he has the pedigree and he deserves every bit of it. Laudrup is definitely in his league though because he was amazing as well. Personally I would go with Zidane if I absolutely had to choose, the man has so many career highlights and has stepped up on the grandest stage on so many occasions it's no wonder why people will always remember him.

Re: Zidane vs Laudrup
Laudrup was nowhere near as good as Zidane and i saw both their careers. Laudrup was excellent... but he lacked the overall field generalship and flow understanding of Zidane.
You guys keep comparing players where you've never seen one of them on a regular basis. Stick to people you've seen.

I'm French so I have to say that Zidane was the better player. My opinion should not be taken seriously as I'm obviously biased, when it comes to this comparison lol.
Fixed.
You could have just written that tbh.
My opinion? Laudrup was the better player.

The key word here is opinion. Sport's point about being more of a field general is very true.

Point is, you can' really debate with sports on who the better player is, as hes obviously biased when it comes to this comparison.

Re: Zidane vs Laudrup
Both were fantastic players so hate to answer questions like these
but Zidane was the better player imo. He could do nearly everything Laudrup could but better. Laudrup's vision and passing was slightly better than Zidane's though. But Zidane in his prime was a player we will never see again. two footed, shot with more venom than a cobra, majestic dribbling for a big man like him and he was just complete.

Re: Zidane vs Laudrup
He's biased for a reason though. Zidane is rightfully one of the best if not the best French player of all time. You don't see him saying Karembu was better than Edgar Davids.
