CR is a bigger flop than Messi in NT. Messi at least won titles for Argentina and was top-10 player in last WC. Where was CR? Before the WC he scored 0 goals in 15 months..nobody even talked about it

The reason why people criticize messi is because people expect more than messi. But what you expect from CR? even his team loses nobody even talk about it. It happened 100 times, portugal lost ton of times, but have you seen any criticism on ronaldo?

and when argentina even makes a draw people jump on Messi. It starts from Argentina media and then all the people in the world start to criticise him. Not fair tbh

27 goals in 82 games for Portugal...
and
86 goals in 89 games for R.Madrid

Last time I checked, the biggest pressure on Messi to perform for the NT was in Argentina. Since they have a big ego when it comes their footballing. They want to think that they are competing with Brazil. The biggest criticism against Messi in the NT have been at home soil. While Portugal have a much more relaxed approach to big tourneys and are just happy that they've been so successful in the last decade as they have. Same thing here in Sweden, nobody is hating on Zlatan for not playing on the same level in the NT as he have on a club level. They understand it and are happy that we're so relatively strong either way considering our general level as a football nation.

This is a crazy post. Let me post two quotes in articles I found. They basically remind everyone that Ronaldo went 16 months w/o scoring for Portugal and they had a very hard time getting into the world cup as well. In fact I believe Portugal and Argentina's qualification struggles for the last World Cup were almost the same and there was huge speculation that neither team may make it and there was even a Nike commercial that people thought could be a jinx when Rooney was living in a trailer, I digress.

BTW, Portugal beat Bosnia in a play off to get in and Argentina beat Uruguay. What's more difficult?

I wish this thread was never made as I hate Ronaldo vs Messi threads, but the post I quoted pretty much sums up what the poster is saying.

Messi and Ronaldo were great as youngsters for there national teams, Messi winning underage tournaments and the olympics and Ronaldo driving Portugal to Ecro and World cup success. The hard fact is for the last couple of years both have been disappointing and Ronaldo gets more of a pass. I know Argentina has great Offensive players, but Portugal has great defensive players too so it's give and take.

people have to understand, that one shouldnt judge a player by what they expect the player to do, when in fact his whole team sucks.

argentina have messi but they sure arent a great team, and you know why? because the whole team sucks as a whole and messi is part of that team, he cant explode anywhere near as he does in barca.

nor can cr7 always go maradona on everyone.

cant believe people expect everyone to just win singlehandedly for their team
