Another "slip" by Marotta? LW Andre Schürlle
If the 2010-11 Bundesliga season was the year for uncovering unknown gems, then few defined the term as well as the tricky Mainz left-winger. With 15 goals and five assists in the league, as well as collecting his first cap for Germany in November, the future looks extremely bright for the 20-year-old.

Re: Another "slip" by Marotta? LW Andre Schürlle
Here is the dilemma, a proven LW or a young prospect with talent?
Let's wait and see what Marotta can bring in for us.
July and August have been two long months for me as I check the transfer news so many times on a daily basis, just can't wait to the 31st of August and see what we have by then.

What is Eljero Elia? Proven or prospect? he's 25 and hasn't really proven himself a star at all!?

Re: Another "slip" by Marotta? LW Andre Schürlle
I'd actually say we should stick to Pasquato for the LW.. So far he has been lethal on the wing and likely the very best in the match against Cuneo! He scored the winning goal against Club America too! Last year Del neri tried out a left winger i do not remember the name of in the test matches, but compared to the performances of pasquato i think pasquato has a whole lot more potential!! lets stick to pasquato and see how it goes and then switch to a 4-3-3 if he fails to impress.. or just use him in rotation, bottom line: GIVE THE YOUNGSTERS PLAYING TIME!!

Re: Another "slip" by Marotta? LW Andre Schürlle
In September 2010, it was announced that Schürrle had signed a five-year contract with Bayer Leverkusen, and would join the club at the end of the season. The transfer fee agreed between the two clubs was believed to be in the region of €8 million.[1]. In his last season playing for Mainz 05, he scored 15 goals in 34 Bundesliga matches

Not a "slip" I guess it was also a slip that Marotta didn't sign David Villa last year, or Torres in January.....

I am sorry! The reason for making this thread was that i read here that he came on a free transfer. Goal.com was wrong in their article on the 20 best transfers of 2011. I figured too that he came for 8 mill €. Side comment: i think Marotta has done a great job this summer, i wasn't trying to blame him for being stupid, slow or anything, i just thought Schurrle was too good to let slip, if that was the case..

There was already a pre-agreement between mainz and bayer..
These kind of transfers often happen in germany..
Ivica Olic comes to mind..
So you cant necessarily consider it as a 'slip'..

20 mill € is a joke. He has not proven anything like that! Did you see the Dortmund - Hamburg match this friday? I like Elia, but its fair to say he was kind of a joke - way too offensive for a hamburg team that played a top class Dortmund. Elia however did not impress whenever he had the ball! You would expect from a WC player to step forward and make miracles even though your teammates suck, but Elia did nothing good. It seems he just want to move to Juve and make us have him cheap.. that would be good, but if we pay anything more then 8 mill for him i would much rather sign say Drenthe or Perotti..

setting everyone on fire? i didnt see such thing. but mor eimportantly, he isnt doing much in germany. If he was chased by "all the top clubs" and is still at hamburg, then their scouts probably saw something they didnt like. If he was rated 20M and now down to 8-12M, then there is something that's pushing the big clubs away

I think devi is obviously referring to elia's exploits at hamburg in the 2009-10 season..He had an excellent season to be fair..And made some great cameo appearances at the world cup..
I havent watched him last season but stats indicate that he had a pretty average season..Which is why his stock has fallen down..I think we should also consider the motivation he possibly has to continue playing at hamburg..
Perhaps he might be forcing himself out you know..just saying..
But he's pacy and a good dribbler though..Characteristics that fits into the profile of players conte is looking for..

No problem man, I didn't mean to overreact as well so I apologize.
There have been a lot of great transfers by a number of clubs, but we can't really compare them all to Juventus' transfers.

Not a slip up. He already had the transfer arranged since last year. He was going to Leverkusen which is a big German club and it would have been extremely hard getting him out of there since German players are usually very loyal to their league.
Much like Italian players, actually.

People are too hard on Marotta... Schuerlle is certainly an amazing player, and he helped Mainz reach the Europa League. But sadly not every player can be brought in by Marotta!

Elia has not showed anything for either Hamburg or Holland! For the last couple of years he has been a living transfer rumor to many top clubs, and after an impressive World Cup his price tag topped (as you said 20mill €), but that does not mean he still is the talent he was 2 years ago? My opinion on Elia has changed alot, but honestly i do not think he is better then Drenthe of RM! But hey... Who says those two aren't good enough for our plans?? :geek:
