Re: El Senior - Xabi Alonso
I'll just say that I completely disagree with the last three posts.
In fact, I believe both of you will be amazed or at least surprised when this season this is exactly the role Modric plays - after all, he has played it for Dinamo, Spurs and Croatia very successfully over the years. You might be even more shocked to find out this is the role we bought him for. And by the way, dictating the tempo of play, composure on the ball are basically his best traits, while I don't even understand what you guys mean by selfishness. He is selfish because he holds the ball? Is Xavi then the most selfish player on the planet?

anyone who thinks modric is not a world class CM is either a hater or a youtube addict
Modric is MUCH better than gundegon, in fact... sahin (when fit) is better than gundegon

I wasn't serious when I said Ramires is WC, infact I've said many times that he isn't better than Khedira. If you don't believe me about Modric, ask anyone who watches EPL weekly, and will tell you that he couldn't control any top 6 midfield in 4 years spent there.

Wow...i just want to say this. We are too spoiled as real madrid fans. I mean alonso had his bad moments, but he has been our most important player the last couple of seasons. I dont know what you guys expect from our players, IMO he still has it in him (Alonso) to play first team in Madrid for atleast 2 more years.

Hmm, he might be a great purchase for the future but as far as i am concerned we paid too much for a yet unfinished talent. Even if he is the next coming of Alonso. Some people did say that money is no big deal for us but remember, situations can always change.
Don't get me wrong, i am really looking forward to see him play. Just that the price just wants me to :

Re: El Senior - Xabi Alonso
his buyout clause unfortunately. but if you are desperate thats what you will do
I can see Barca triggering inigos 30mill buyout clause if they lose out on silva as their last resort. again on a good day he is not worth that much but you can't do much if its club does not want to negotiate at all

Re: El Senior - Xabi Alonso
I guess we just have to agree to disagree then.
Off topic, I have no problem with us paying good money for players. But what we usually do is try to fit a round peg in a square hole. IMO, we always try to sign the flavor of the year, whoever that might be.
Look at Sahin, what happened to him.? (I know exactly what happened to him)

my goddness gracious
he is suffering the same injury Marcelo suffered last season and we all now how that turned out
wish him the speediest of recoveries
now out of 5 midfielders we only have two fit J-Rod has been training with the first team wouldn't be surprised if he travels with the team while the others nurse their injuries

Yeh hopefully he recovers quickly. However I don't think he should be starting this season anyway even if he was fit.

Re: El Senior - Xabi Alonso
Don't you think that his presence is missed ? These games reminded me of the few Xabi didn't play in the last seasons. I really think many of us(including me) underestimated his ability and influence.

Re: El Senior - Xabi Alonso
I don't think he would have made much of a difference. He usually struggled as well in certain games. Even if he wasn't injured he shouldn't have been starting this season.

Defensively he is missed 100%, not because of his presence, but he is the one who organize everyone on the field. He's by far our most intelligent player.

Re: El Senior - Xabi Alonso
Xabi on fashion:
“For that [clothes] I am very classical, I like the detail and care what I wear, I love watches and shoes, but I’m not a fashion victim. I am very clear on what I like and what I don’t, and in that way I rely on my gut feelings: I would never wear a fur coat.”
Xabi on his teammates’ style choices:
“Cristiano does his best to make me laugh, but that’s nothing compared to the clothes that Drenthe wears. He was a spectacle. I also laugh a lot at Arbeloa. ‘Today your wife dressed you, no?’ I tell him. And he gets pissed off.”
Xabi on food:
“I go crazy. I eat everything, and in that sense Madrid never stops: there is cooking with fresh ingredients, Japanese, Chinese, more high-end, less so, I don’t care, I just like to eat a lot. So much so that I’ve had to put limits on myself because I can’t stuff myself everyday, and Madrid has some wonderful things to offer.”
He is also classic when it comes to wine: “a good Ribera del Duero or a Mauro, and I’m happy” and admits that his weakness involves bubbles – “I love champagne.”

Re: El Senior - Xabi Alonso
Alonso's birthday today. He turns 32.
http://www.realmadrid.com/cs/Satellite/en/Actualidad_Primer_Equipo_en/News/1193040523950/1385074780868/noticia/Noticia/Xabi_Alonso_turns_32_today.htmXabi Alonso celebrates his 32nd birthday today. The midfielder signed with Real Madrid in the 2009/10 season and has been a team leader in the five seasons he’s played with the club since, winning a Liga, a Copa de Rey and a Spanish Super Cup with the Whites. After recovering from an injury the midfielder has disputed the last five matches this season. Xabi Alonso has played 197 games with Real Madrid to date and has found the net six times with the Whites.
The midfielder was born on 25 November 1981 in Tolosa (Guipúzcoa) and debuted in the 1st Division in the ranks of Real Sociedad when he was 19 years old. Xabi Alonso signed with Real Madrid after a successful stint in Liverpool, where he won a Champions League and made a name for himself as one of Europe’s top midfielders. He debuted with the Whites on 29 August 2009 against Deportivo de la Coruña and scored his first official goal on 21 February 2010 against Villarreal in the Santiago Bernabéu.

How does he perform since his injury return? Fully fit again? Still rusty? Past it?

Re: El Senior - Xabi Alonso
He is the reason for our turn around in performances. I hope he renews for a season or two
He is the leader of our team and really sorts out the midfield(something we lacked when he was away). We went from scraping past Elche to dominating the midfield and completely outplaying teams with him
I think the reason for his great performances is the fact we deploy a three man midfield which means not too much defensive duty is put on him and the fact he has a calm partner in Illara who can pass a ball to his intended target under pressure meaning Xabi doesn't neeed to bail him out like last year with Khedira next to him. I just hope Alonso can teach illara those precise passes before he leaves because that will set us up nicely for the future
