Attempted kidnappings ruin players for their clubs.
Last year, Madrid kept trying to buy Maicon and he ended up crying about it and played like crap for Inter. This year that arrogant piece of crap Ferguson is doing the same thing in that sneaky scottish way to Sneijder, and he will suck for Inter this year. Guardiola has been doing the same thing to Fabregas for two years, and he isn't playing very well at all.
I am sure there are other examples, but these are the most obvious.

Re: Attempted kidnappings ruin players for their clubs.
If players dont have the mental strength to continue playing well despite interest from other teams, perhaps it shows their weakness.
Other players have had big interest from bigger clubs and they dont drop in form.

Re: Attempted kidnappings ruin players for their clubs.
so clubs should stop trying to sign players?
when things drag as long as they do for cesc you have a point, otherwise, it doesnt apply to everything.
It's just a natural process, players are the culprits here. They dream for greener pastures, you should blame them for dreaming of leaving your club.
If they werent happy to be tapped up by those clubs, they would give an outright "NO", and the saga would be dead. It's not that hard to rekindle the love you have for your existing club.
Instead of being forthcoming about it, they wait, play with the medias, look at opportunities and such.
we didnt sweat when city thought of tapping up ronaldo.

Inter was trying to cash on a washed up player just like how Milan sold Kaka to Real Madrid.

Then those players aren't mentally strong and the clubs interested in them should re-consider their interest. A good example is Real Madrid was heavily interested in Henry whilst at Arsenal many moons ago and he continued being great with much fuss. David Villa also had a serious admirer in Real Madrid/Barcelona/most of Europe's elite and still did great, David Silva as well.

"Attempted kidnappings" Pussyfooting around trying to get a fire sale price that will never happen and dragging the thing out is what I am talking about.
Not a PSG style where they offer a price acceptable to the seller for Pastore and the deal is done.

While trying to get Wesley to say that he wants to go to ManU, it was on the radio this morning. Ferguson wants to hear a player say he is devoted to ManU before coming out in the open and admitting that they are trying to buy the player, and Wesley isn't saying it, so he drags the thing on and on. That's what i meant by the sneaky scottish technique.

Maybe Sneijder isnt that attached to Inter, you should be upset about that.

Problem is, there's not enough principled managers in football. You have a bunch of 20-something millionaire kids and a sporting culture that encourages tapping up and chasing paychecks and glory. I blame both sides.
The sport as it is, is unsustainable. Something will happen in the near future to ensure more parity.. but some people at FIFA might have to keel over dead first.

Try to follow the thread, ManU is purported to be offering 2.6 million (1.6 M sterling) more per year in salary to Sneijder, about 30% more than he makes with Inter. I can only be happy that he hasn't said that he definitely wants to go to ManU with that kind of an offer.
You need to work on your mental problem solving function, it isn't working.
