Ranking the clubs based on the values of their players...
It ranks the clubs of the Top 5 European Leagues based on the values of their players who played last season(2012/13).
It's a pity that only the Top 20 are ranked.Further only the Top 5 leagues(EPL,La Liga,Bundi Serie A & Ligue 1) were considered because of which clubs like Porto miss out.
Though the rankings are on expected lines, there were two shockers(at least for me).
One was Chelsea above Inter and the other was Tottenham above Manchester United. For all of Tottenham's wheeling and dealing they seem to have a good rank, thanks mainly to Bale and his stupendous season.

Interesting to see. I'd say Torres is probably a big reason for us being in negative figures. That and we've only recently focused on bringing in younger players rather than established stars that will only lose value. Players like Mata, Hazard, Oscar, Luiz, Lukaku, Courtois and de Bruyne will have all risen in value.

This is not a table based on the values of their players. Tottenham's squad isn't more expensive than Man United's and you can see that in the table.

Actually the ranking is about the value they gained from their original cost to their value this season. Pity they only showed the absolute numbers, not the change in percentages based on the original value, as then Dortmund would lead by a margin.

chelsea
city
bayern

I think you guys don't understand the table. One column is the cost of purchasing the players (fees of assembling) the second is the current estimated market value of the players (value now) and the third is the difference.
Tottenham has a lower value than that of Man Uniteds but their difference column is bigger.

How did they determine the value of the players?

How do they determine the cost of assembly? If you spend 25M€ a year on a youth academy and only get 1 first team player every 2 years was that player free or did he cost 50M€?

Well, for the Bundesliga you might consider the cost for the Youth Academy as fee to get the BL licence, so any player that gets produced is a boon and sort of free ^^Phritz wrote:How do they determine the cost of assembly? The CIES Football Observatory in Neuchâtel, Switzerland has added more weight to the Messi - Ronaldo rivalry by backing Messi as the more valuable footballer. The study, released on Thursday, has valued Messi at between €217m and €252m, which is more than double that of Ronaldo’s value.
“There is more chance of Ronaldo leaving Real than of Messi leaving Barcelona, mainly because of his price tag, which puts him out of reach for potential suitors, except for a number of insane investors,” said Rafaele Poli, the study’s co-author.
The study that took age, history, length of contract, performances, parent club, and international caps into consideration, has calculated the values of every player in the five big European league championships. Cristiano Ronaldo’s value is estimated to be between €102m and €118m.
