how to make professional forum for free
This is just some suggestions you may want to take but I wont push for strongly.
Advantages
can use .tk as a parked domain meaning you could have www.goallegacy.tk /index.php/topic4t5ttdhwatever and you can refresh and link threads no problem.you could do this with .com too but someone would need to pay for a domain.
Professional, not forumotion, can install and create themes
Phpbb just like this forum
can make homepage or even forum portal on same server so they'd professionally link
Disadvantages
Start from scratch
not vbulletin.
HOW TO DO
Get free webhost with cpanel like x10hosting.com
go in admin tools open cpanel and follow steps to install phpbb should take like 30 seconds, then voila.
Just bored and procrastinating atm tell me what u think.

Re: Web hosting sites
1) co.nr or .co.cc are better and faster
2) x10hosting is the slowest host and does not contain enough space for all the traffic coming in this forum

As with anything, you get what you pay for.
Most free services always seem to have some catch to them, IMO. Be it server downtime, inability to manage traffic, etc.
Honestly, for a forum this big and with potential to grow even bigger, I wouldn't recommend trying to find shortcuts. One suggestion is VIP members, where you have the choice to donate towards hosting costs.

Is it possible to pay for a forum through advertising?

It depends on the size of the forum. On the larger sized forums I've been to, they feature ads. But that revenue alone doesn't seem to be enough to run the boards. (From what I know of two forums running close to 100,000 + members)

Re: Web hosting sites
There have been many mentions of moving to a more professional (and less free :p ) forum. At the moment, however, we were and are working under time constraints given the rather abrupt notice on the other site's termination.
We would first like to be assured of the sustainability and feasibility of a forum that is completely separate from Goal before deciding to commit to something that has monetary requirements. In other words, we are open to and considering the option of a private and paid-for forum, but it will take some time and consideration. It's a huge commitment and not one to walk into lightly and without the proper preparation and thought.
For now let's work with this and see how it goes...

Re: Web hosting sites
hostagor is the best hosting site...for the first month you can get 1 month hosting for $0.01
and there are people such as me willing to pay for the domain....
and we could probably easily make $10+ per month through google ads..but i don't think forumotion allows you to add your own until your buy out theirs

Re: Web hosting sites
That is one of the many things that would need to be thoroughly discussed and decided upon. It would most likely depend on how sustainable we thought the forums would be in terms of members and donators.mr-r34 wrote:quick question red, if you do decide to do it pro styles, single ownership, or forum owned?

Re: Web hosting sites
The basic version of vbulletin forum costs £123 one off payment. Web hosts start at around £1.99 a month with free domains.
