There must be sizeable money for them still to spend considering the rate at which they ship off their academy products and accrue 'pure PSR profits'. I haven't seen Kovacic at DM since he played for Real Madrid and was tasked with marking Messi I think he did a great job back then, although Messi did score in the end.

Yea that was a memorable game highlighted by the incident where he decided to keep dropping off allowing Messi space for the shot He was never the same afterwards? But hes steadily gotten better n better at Man C n its good to see, a top footballer..

Yeah.. I don't remember who our regular DM was back then. Kovacic was a young player with potential, and he only started against Barcelona because we had injuries. I think our manager was Mourinho at the time, and he really threw Kovacic under the bus by having him play from the start, in a position he wasn't used to playing in, AND marking Messi

All things considered, I think he had a much, much better game than most people had expected, although Messi did get past him in the end. He was given a task that he was destined to fail at, with Messi being in great form and in the prime of his career and Kovacic just being an inexperienced kid that was asked to do something that most experienced players would fail at - stopping Messi from getting to the goal.
