Is Nico Williams really necessary for Barcelona or they scared to miss out on him? What about sorting out key problems in Defence and adding a bit flair to the midfield

Defense is relatively solid with Kounde, Araujo, Martinez, Cubarsi, Balde, and with upcoming talents like Fort, Valle and Faye. Cancelo was the weak link, and his loan is ending

Felix loan is also expiring and looks increasingly unlikely that he will continue. That leaves us without a natural left winger. Adding Nico there will completely transform the way we attack. That's a key transfer in my book!

Midfield also needs reinforcements, and some names are lined up for the DM position, which needs urgent reinforcement as well. But equally as urgent is the fact that we cannot miss out on a talent of Nico's caliber. It will be challenging to incorporate Nico and a WC DM but I'm sure they will try.

To sign anyone, Barca has to sell. Players most often mention are Kounde, Araujo and one or more of the midfield. So getting Nico (if you can, I will doubt it), you do so by weakening the defence and midfield. Then you also have the issue of no depth. I think you are going to go with Rafinho, Yamal, Lewa, Pedro, Gavi, Gundugon, Balde, Cuberari, Martinez, Kounde (if he stays). Not bad, but as stated earlier no depth.

Funnily enough with the age of the rest of the team, especially in attack, an experienced guy like Lewa is exactly what they need or they'll get eaten up by more experienced teams in the CL

I also refuse to accept Olmo, Fabian, Rodri is better than our midfield of say Gundogan, Pedri, De Jong Our biggest issue by far has been no LW... so this would go a long way...

Lol, De Jong is likely being sold, Gündogan not happy at Barca and Pedri will miss the first month of season! But even if they all remain, happy and healthy, they are not better than our NT midfield.

You still are not addressing your biggest issue which is bench strength.

And I’ll believe the Nico news when and if it happens. I now think he will accept a larger salary, bigger team in EPL. It does seem clear though that he will be leaving Bilbao.

Our midfield is worse because it's physically weak. In Spain, Rodri and Fabian provide the much needed presence that none of our MFs can provide

If you have a DM like Rodri not only you control the middle but also the backline feels more comfortable overall

In terms of technical ability our mf is fine, but it doesnt mean much when your opponents outrun and outmuscle you. Its more important now in modern football

Every source says Nico is rejecting offer from EPL because he wants Barca. He wants to play with Yamal quite obviously so not sure where you get your news from especially with regard to Gundogan not being happy??

FDJ is injured for 2 months so he won't pass a medical anywhere tho? So who will buy him?

Anyway selling him would not weaken us, he is overpaid, constantly injured and not all that good anymore

Re Gundogan, he took a lot of flax for telling Arjuja to learn and then a couple of weeks ago, he took quite a jab at Xavi. It may be different with a different coach.

I was primarily responding to yet another ridiculous post by the naive one!

I really like your youth and it looks like you will have a decent to good starting lineup. But as I have said numerous times, you need a strong bench to compete, at least in CL. And that remains your biggest weakness.

I just hope (for the sake of our NT) that you don’t continue to overplay and burn out your youth. I can’t get over, the difference between the two clubs in treatment of youth. At Madrid, they try to acclimatize the SA youth to Europe, even given them nutrition advise. They slowly introduce them to playing time trying to avoid any pressure until 2nd or 3rd year (Bellingham was an exception) and even given special training, in the case of Güler, to put on weight / muscle to help overcome injuries and allow kids to compete with men. And finally, now that we have a full squad with no deadweight, there are lots of rotations, so that noone is overplayed.

At Barca, it doesn’t seem that there is any thought to taking care of the youth talent.

Definitely our midfield is lacking physically... its more due to Gundogans age, Pedri n De Jong arent strong physically. But we got Gavi when hes fit n who knows what he becomes post injury... Christensen has filled in but not ideal.

NT Fabian has been great this tourney, but prior to that pretty sure no one rated him at PSG so... n Olmo? Come on... Rodri is top I agree...

@Myesyats, have you seen or heard what Uriarte said today about Barca and Laporta? Sure doesn’t sound like hou will be getting Nico!

He said they are "capable of keeping player like Nico because they have an attractive project". Doesnt sound like he's 100% sure of keeping Nico...

Oh how wrong you are. Bilbao has a way of keeping their players and he also said Nico signed a new contract just last year and his contract is in effect to 2027. He also talked about possible tampering charges.

Laporta / Barca is known throughout Europe as unethical in their dealings and the last thing they need especially considering the financial recovery going on, is to damage relationships with la liga clubs.
Trust me on this one, Bilbao is not a club you want to have a fight with! If you don’t believe me, look up previous players thinking of leaving Bilbao.

This makes no sense. Why would he have a release clause in his contract then? Bilbao is not a prison
