Sacking a manger who was doing a great job just to bring in a bigger name. What a joke decision!

Didn't he save Derby from relegation? Then they went banktupt.
I have no idea how he did in the states though.

53 games played
14 wins
14 draws
25 losses
26% win percentage
Failed to make the playoffs both years he was there and was, rightly, fired. The team had no idea what it was doing.

Birmingham have been sinking down the table towards relegation zone since Wazza took over. What a fail Wazza'a appointment is turning out to be.

Always liked Rooney more so when he shifted from United so i could appreciate him for what he is similar to when SAF retired but no one has ever said Wayne was a bright mind by any means and his unimpressive coaching record so far does not surprise me in the least.

Hes a trash manager.
Top 3 EPL player of all time but managing clearly isn't his forte.

I really don’t understand why so many very good players go into coaching. With the money they made in their playing careers, they certainly are not in it for money? I look at Wayne Grezky from hockey, absolute one of the best of all time, was great at general manager, even owner at one time but not suited to coaching. I think he only does the management out of interest as these players are still young when they retire
These greats, usually are perfectionists and don’t have the patience for those of lessor talent than they had.

Thats debatable as some will naturally want to be kept busy and high earnings usually mean expenses just as high for the shrewd ones invest and maintain if not double what they have. Mathieu Flamini easily the finest example who's richer than any current or former footballer by a huge stretch.
Some will also want to add to their legacy but onto managing which I respect.
Gretzky is an example of a ridiculously good player who simply could not teach what he is, to which most cannot.
Your coach Carletto, was coached under Sacchi for example and was known to pick the brains of all his manager and be involved, and of course we know was a very good midfielder with a very high football IQ.
Rooney was incredible but never known to the the brightest mind out there as it is.

Coaching is a bit like teaching. It's a skill of its own and it requires a few things not related to the sport itself such as leadership, authority, vulgarization and patience.
I know a former NHLer who played under Gretzky in Arizona... of course when it comes to hockey his fundamentals are too good, his brain is always one step ahead. His strategies were unclear, presented as easy to understand but actually requires a lot of hard work and anticipation, therefore the average player would struggle to execute. Did not help that alcohol and golf were higher in the list of his priorities than the results of his franchise yet if you take a private lesson 1v1 with Wayne Gretzky i bet you'll improve a lot

Managerial work doesn't even come down to pure intelligence for thats nearly the same thing as calling Fight IQ translating into actual IQ.
Floyd Mayweather has one of the best fight IQs in boxing history but is dumb as bag of rocks outside of the ring.
Lampard apparently has an above 150 IQ but is a rather average manager. The ones who come out to succeed usually you know they will based on how they speak about it, relationship with their coach and usually...midfielders.
