Anyone else think Ederson is overrated? He might be the best ever goalie in terms of distribution, but his actual shot stopping isn't noteworthy at all. He's atrocious on 1v1s. He always mindlessly rushes out of his net.

yea Ederson isn't one of the best shot stoppers around, but he is not bad at it either... he's ball-playing is unreached levels though for a goalkeeper

Agreed. He was exposed multiple times today. salah’s second shot was Savable and he got bailed out by rodri after leaving his area unnecessarily

I think Pep is wondering how they never got all 3 wins were far superior to all three sides.

They construct the play as good as possible, but end of the day someone needs to put the ball in the back of the net.

Sterling is their only outlet who actually has pace, but he's so shit at finishing it's not funny. Once again he had a 1v1 and he stopped and tried passing backward.

Foden is the only one who is a sure starter in that front three. He's an amazing talent. Genuine Ballon d'or quality. Once he improves his finishing coming in from the left he'll be scary since his ball striking is already very good unlike Sterling.

City pulled off the PL without a CF last year because the competition all had an off year. I just think this year Chelsea, City, Pool will all have 90 points or so. That means constantly missing sitters is going to haunt them a lot more this season than it did last season.

Slow down. Foden isn’t even City’s main player yet. But yeah, he’s 21 right? He’s pretty damn good for 21 but we’ll see. Does anyone know what his best position would be yet?....

Anfield with fans is just magical pulling through even after being worse than a league 2 team for 45 mins, Thiago sorely missed in midfield today but he's finally back after the NT break ! Proud of the performance, still unbeaten this season, onwards!

Yeah I agree, shocking to see how they didn't just splash the cash everybody knows they can, so its odd they didn't at the end. Liverpool are going to drop once Salah and Mane go to Afcon, United are already on a downward I see this being their trend, only Chelsea may keep up, but it may depend. City have also shown they can always go in form and win 10-15 games on a bounce, KdB isn't even at his best yet for them. Last season Gundo, Cancelo and Foden form from Dec to March/April sealed the title for them, can see something like that happen again around mid year either with some of the same players. This could also be Jesus season has been solid out wide and seems to be enjoying himself there.

Its both a weakness and strength, he has saved City plenty by coming out, equally messed them up. The CL final he did the same against Chelsea. Kai may have still scored, but if he stayed instead of coming out he would've made him work harder for it. As far as his shot stopping goes its tough to rate, because he's a bit at a disadvantage, I remember the game of Dortmund V Benfica, Dortmund won 4-0 or something but they had 10-15 shots on target and Ederson was solid, I believe due to not facing too many shots he just doesn't seem prepared, before this game in at Liverpool, City only faced 5 shots on target against Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Leicester, Southampton and Norwich. Even if you think about it they face 7 shots on target against Chelsea, PSG and Pool in 3 games, this was up against Lukaku, Kai, Werner, Messi, Neymar, Mbappe, Mane, Salah, Jota and Firmino Laughing

I don't think he is rated that highly however he is very much a Guardiola GK. He wouldn't work at most clubs because his shot stopping ability is decent and he isn't the best at commanding. He is essentially an outfield player who is not terrible at Goalkeeping.

Yea been saying hes overrated for a few years. If Man C have a better GK they might have scraped through a few of key games over the years. Quite rash in general n not cool headed enough.

Ederson has assists as a GK, that' how good he is in distribution. While his shot-stopping is not world-class, he more than makes up for it with other qualities, making him easily one of the best GKs in the Premier League as a total package.

It is ridiculous to insinuate that Liverpool's goals today were easily savable by anyone else (Foden's goal was actually a harder angle than Salah's). His major mistake was going out for that FK though.

In terms of distribution, I don't think there's ever been a goalie better. He's the ideal ball-playing goalie and an essential part of City.

His shot-stopping isn't special though and this wasn't something I gathered from this performance specifically, but by watching him over the last 3-4 years. I can't think of too many performances where he was the difference between a City loss or tie/win.

Now because of the way City plays Ederson often faces higher quality shots since teams attack him on the counter with 2-3 defenders ahead of him. However, I struggle to think of moments where he pulled off a miraculous save in those situations. I can however remember his blunders against Lyon, Spurs, and Liverpool.

Most of them follow the same pattern. It's those long-range 1v1s. He's dreadful in those. At least when Neuer sweeps it's for loose balls, but Ederson challenges these attackers like it's a loose ball. It makes it so easy for them to score. The optimal way to save 1v1s is to stay closer to your line then rushing at the attacker when it becomes close range. Ederson is always rushing at them when it's long-range. In contrast, his Brazilian teammate Alisson is amazing at those kinds of situations. I can't understand how he hasn't taken note of that or how City hasn't ironed that shit out of his game.

Well Ederson was great and I completely disagree with LS, Salah's goal which was so clearly from a tighter angle on his weaker foot compared to Foden. Here is the proof compare the angles yourself, even if we wanna walk into the minute angles, Salah takes it and then again with his weaker foot. Salah is nearly halfway into the 6 yard box clearly.

Allison is great with his feet as well. Brazil are really unlucky having these two keepers at the same time and even looking at stats, Ederson has 2 assists while Allison has 1 goal and 1 assist as a keeper. Both are unbelievable with their feet compared to the rest.

What do you guys think about this one, is there any difference between best form by a player at the moment and best player at the moment on the player?
The talk of Salah being the best player is somehow funny. In my opinion, a consistent player till the end of December (or minimum 5 to 6 months) should be in the discussion of best player on the planet.
